01' GTX DI - manual says it should just slide out. Parts Diagram shows a "C" clip in place. Having trouble finding the clip. See attached image. Looks like the clip is under part number 15 but is see no way to move it. I can move the rubber boot about .50 to .75 of an inch but I see no groove for the clip to sit in. Anyone got an idea?

Edit - found a pic of a used drive shaft on ebay, looks like part 15 is fixed to the drive shaft.

That C-clip is to hold the stainless ring in place. (15 in your pic) Basically... the rubber boot puts pressure on the carbon ring, and holds it tight on the stainless ring. The C-clip, is hidden by the stainless ring, and you won't see it until you slide the stainless ring out of the way.

TO GET IT OUT: (this MUST be done with the pump on the back of the boat/ski)

1) Put a block of wood behind the engine, to use as a pry point

2) Use a tire spoon, or large screwdriver, and push the stainless ring toward the transom. That will expose the C-clip.

3) now... you can remove the pump... and it will all slide out the rear.

Just an FYI... there are a couple O-rings inside the stainless ring. They can be hard, and stuck to the driveshaft if it's never been apart before. A little shot of silicon oil will help them side... but DO NOT get it on the carbon ring, if you want to re-use it.

I wanted to come back and update this thread for someone in the future who is having difficulty.

I was able to get the support ring to move after some blood and sweat. I tried the method mentioned above and could not get it to budge. In the end, I ended up using a propane torch to heat the support ring and then took a 24 inch pry bar and used it as a punch. I rapped the end of the pry bar while holding the other end on the lip of the support ring. I kept stopping and rotating the drive shaft. After several turns of the drive shaft the ring finally started to move. Once it was free I could easily see the c clip and determine the reason it was so tough to remove. RUST. Once the C clip was removed a simple pull of the pump and out came the drive shaft. Hope this helps.
