Hi I just bought a 96 XP for 75 bucks, yes 75.00. Motor seems to be good after tinkering around with bad gas/missing gas line I got it to run. compression on the cylinders was 143-145 ish.

The jet pump was apart totally off the ski I have a shop manual, that I read and looked at to put it back together. the motor was not taken out or moved was still in there tight so I dont think I would need to realign the motor with that alignment tool.

Anyway my question is, as I put the drive shaft in the motor it slipped in fine then I slipped it in the impeller (PUMP END). where the splines end there is a flared radius type feature to the drive shaft, is this supposed to be flush with the impeller? Does any one have a picture of what its supposed to look like from under side. Im looking up through the intake grate.

I cant get the shaft to slide any closer to the impeller, I believe the carbon ring assembly is hloding it from sliding?

Thanks any other info would be great as well.

If it helps. use the "Parts" link at the top for a diagram of the jet pump assy. I use the diagram all the time for parts assembly and completeness of items. It might help out as you had it apart and know what is in the assembly. If your still stuck, and the diagram isn't a help give us a shout back and we'll go from there.

that flared end on the driveshaft is where the rubber boot of the impeller rests, sounds like you may be missing the rubber boot which gives a smooth transition from the driveshaft to the impeller.

Ok I must have missed that, in the diagram.

also explains why it looks to be a little short.

Any problems with running with out one?

I put a new wear ring in and impeller and syliconed (spellling not my strong suit) the crap out of it.

you can run without it, you will have some minor performance loss though. I've seen lots of them without it but why not get a new one and replace it after you get it on the water and make sure everything else is ok?
