I have a 1996 speedster, the starboard engine runs but the shaft does not turn, when I removed the jet pump the shaft will just turn , when I pull it out 1/2 inch it engages and is ok. What holds the shaft in the proper position? I did have to replace the grease fitting on the flywheel, Is the grease what is supposed to hold the shaft in the proper position? Please HELP!

Sounds like the splines are stripped.
If the jetpump is off :
1, remove the PTO cover
2, get someone to push the shaft forwards from behind the boat.
3, push the stainless ring back that is in front of the carbon seal
4, pop the cir-clip off
5, pull shaft out the back of the boat.

When you replace the drive shaft make sure it has the rubber bumpers on both ends.

Shaft is out splines look fine it just seems like the shaft goes too far into the flywheel, is there something to hold it out?

I didn't notice one but I didn't notice it missing, I guess I'll pull everything apart in the morning and check again....I feel so stupid!

Sometimes they get stuck in the pto or impeller when you pull out the shaft. Make sure they aren't stuck in there.
