Doo to Doo communication

Scrubbs

New Member
With the recent addition of a second Doo, we are now faced with an interesting situation. My wife can't speak to me anymore. Now, BEFORE you all run with the 'what's your problem jokes' (lord knows I said them all to her already) it is a serious question.

Have any of you guys or gals solved this problem. My wife is my best friend (still) and I actually enjoy talking with her. We stop now on the lake for drifting sessions, but some waterproof blue tooth or something might be nice.....

Thanks

In laymen terms then- you are looking to basically have radio communication with your wife's ski? Sounds like a cool concept - subscribing to this thread :)

I'm guessing you will have to have a hands free radio installed, like they use on motorcycles. I know they make water resistant ones for bikes but I'm sure they won't hold up to begin submerged, splashed should be ok tho. I'd call a motorcycle/pwc dealer and ask if they can do a custom install. Won't be cheap but if you take long trips on skis, would be fun to have. My wife and I have same kind of relationship...so I understand.

OK... sorry about that. (I thought it was funny)

Basically... you are going to fight the same issue that every Motorcycle, Dirtbike, Quad, and snowmobile rider has been trying to do for years.

The real issue with what you want to do, is that a PWC will simply be too loud, (engine and wind) while running, to talk to another PWC. Also... Unless you want to wear a helmet, and have a hands free system... it's too dangerous to use a hand held unit, at any speed over no-wake.

When I ride in the rivers around Pitt... I have a hand held marine radio, so I can call to other boats, and the Lock Masters. But... even with the engine at idle... a lot of times it's hard to hear.

With that said... wearing a headset can be dangerous too. If you are blocking out, the outside sounds... you may miss warnings from other people.

Realistically... if you need to talk... FOR SAFETY... please just stop, turn off the engines, and talk.

The hands free motorcycle units are mounted into a helmet. The helmet also cuts the wind noise. So... it's not really a viable solution for recreational PWC riding.

Also... as you said... they are WATER RESISTANT. If you submerged one, at the impact speed that could potentially happen with a ski... you would kill the units.

I really hate being a black cloud... but I would also hate to see a member spend a butt load of $$$, and not have a usable system.

newlyweds, gotta love em :)

LOL !!!!!

Yep... give them 10 year or so.... then... this is the view you want. No kids, wife, or other noise. (other than an engine and/or radio)

It's only a small issue for me but seadooing is a solitary "sport". I'm more into cruising and enjoying the water, wind in my face and the scenery. It can be somewhat disappointing when you see something you wish to share and can't - other than by some spastic arm-waving charade style motions........:lols:

Yep, met her April of 1992, started dating her the next day, moved in with her three months later and married her in 1995. Been a wonderful 21 years. :D

And there is no one I would rather be on the lake with.....

(Except for the 'list'.... Married guys know what I mean)

congrats. 21 years with my "newlywed" too

Are you guys counting in "Dog years"... or "it feels like years". (LOL)

If that's the case... I've been married for 60~70 years.

<< 24 years here.. and i agree...
but i don't think there is a realistic solution... honestly... just take more drifting breaks....

the only real option i guess is waterproof phones (or cases) wired to ear pieces, either wired or bluetooth, make a phone call, and just keep talking while riding... or learn left handed sign language

Semi OT but related enough to post IMO..
I think we all agree with 2 or more ski's on the water, communication is all but impossible...w/o getting awful pricey... you can probably set it up cheaply with phones/headgear but IMO you'd be going thru headphones about 3x a year...

but does anybody else use hand signals when riding with your ride buddies/group?
for important stuff...
I have a few.... curious if anybody else uses them or has more suggestions/input

Fist up. Stop/idle
Open hand up... Slow down
circle above head ... turn around
pat head... break time
throat slash... i'm done for the day
wavy motion... dolphin ahead
we've never mastered a way to communicate "debris in water/sandbar" "avoid" generally we just point to it, but it only works on the left side :)

Oh man I'd kill to have to use a "dolphin ahead" motion!!

The only way I can do a "debris on right side" is an over-the-head pointing right...

I added to your throat slash.
what's the sign for Hot Babe in a Thong ahead? :)

I guess it depends on the definition of "hot babe"....Truly hot and in a thong? Probably standing up and wildly thrashing
your arms around like you're having a stroke while repeatedly pointing towards her.***

Not hot and should never be near any thong? Probably standing up and wildly thrashing
your arms around like you're having a stroke while repeatedly covering your eyes and repeatedly
pointing towards her.

***if riding with your wife or significant other? Dropping your chin to your chest and immediately driving
away from the area while averting your eyes from anywhere near the uh...uh....
