The saga continues...
Last engine self destructed because I thought the oiler cable came out of the keeper and didn't allow the pump arm to move from the idle position and didn't allow it to swing into full flood...now I am not so sure.
-Installed new long block from SBT
-Premixed the gas 50:1
-Drained all old oil out of the tank (and block) and put in a gallon of quicksilver api stuff
-I marked the level of the oil on the oil tank with a sharpie
-Bled the oil line with the bleeder screw on the oil pump
-Started motor and held oiler wide open while throttle was at idle
-Ran at the specified throttle openings for specified times (As SBT recommends)
Now the problem...the oil level only went down about a quarter of an inch and the fuel level is about half. I also stopped about halfway through my break in ride and bled the oil line from the bleeder in fear of there being an air pocket or something, so that quarter inch that is missing from the tank is partially from bleeding.
Should I assume that the oiler isn't working?
When I let it idle at the dock i do see some smoke coming out...but not like when I fog my Johnson 2cycle outboard.
How much smoke should I see?
Halfway through my ride I put some more oil in with the gas (I was getting nervous...I can't afford to do damage again)
I would normally just buy the blockoff plate and premix, but as a family boat i would rather have the oil injection, so there is no confusion about how much oil to mix in (I worked on a fuel dock for many years...people have A LOT of trouble with ratios!)
What do you guys think? is it oiling and i am just being paranoid?
