I had my carbs rebuilt and they had to remove these obviously. What I need is to know what they are and how I can get new clamps to hold them on? I'm pretty sure they are filters. What I don't know is how can they filter it they are only metal?

These are the clamps I need. I've looked at the local Seadoo and auto parts stores. No luck. Is there something else I can use. This is what came on the ski. I have nothing else. Thanks in advance.

Those are only spark arresters. They don't need to filter the air. There isn't much in the way of dirt on the water. I would just use the same clamps to hole them on. Check places like Auto Zone.

I was told by some guy that worked at the local Seadoo dealer in Katy that I shouldn't run with out them. Will cause my ski to run lean?!.? I have no clue about that so I'm curious about that as well. I went to all the auto parts stores today and can't find them. The old clamps are about half the width of normal clamps. These are all rusted at the screw. I can't open or close them. I don't know what to do.

I outlined the problem area. One doesn't even have the screw on the clamp anymore. They are about half the size of the normal hose clamps for autos.

It seems like a brand name on the out side of the spark arrester. google it!
Do you have the stock unit to put back on it? You could check e-bay too or our "parts" link at the top of the page.

You could use a couple heavy zip ties to temp it til you find the right clamps.
By heavy zip ties I mean the ones with the metal piece in them.

Same type of clamps used on CV boot joints I think. Check NAPA auto parts stores.

This is going to sound nuts, but if you have a garden store near by check there.

I used to work on building little fish ponds in peoples backyards(the little ones with like a little water fall or whatever). Anyways some of the pumps and filter use hoses that big and I know for a fact I have used clamps that big an was able to pick them up at a garden/hardware store.

Like Lowes or Home Depot. I just need the clamps. I take it the flame arresters are ok. Do they need to be cleaned? Why are they flame arresters? What purpose do they serve? How would I clean them? There is oil all over them.

I googled them and sent them a message. I hope to get a response before the summer ends. I want to ride my SKI!

eww i no i no they are dodge made :stupid: anything with dodge on it your can throw in the trash:agree:

Ha ha very funny. I just happened to set them on my hood. Hater! I'm just curious what the hell they are for? To me a flame arrestor is to keep fire from coming out of something. I figured yall would know more than I. Not make jokes about what vehicle I drive.

Uh ...I own 5 Dodges... I compare them to seadoo when it comes to quality...I'm a car dealer...
Those spark aresters are to prevent any backfires from causing an explosion in the engine compartment.

all im sorry im just a jokester you didnt have to hurt my feelings :( now im going to have to :boxing_smiley: in the nose

And Karl if I would have known you think of Seadoos kinda like Dodges I would had bought a SeaRay lol Dohhh :ack:

As the 2 Seadoo set in my drive hooked to FORDS :hurray:

I'm not brand specific. I like the big 4 too. Chevy, Dodge, Ford and Toyota. This hijack is getting out of hand. Back to the regularly scheduled program......

Hi jacked!.........

Man, this hi jacked thread went way over the top..............wow, lets get the guy some answers...........

Karl is right about the flame arrestors......they are to prevent backfiring of the engine, igniting fuel vapors that may have built up in the engine compartment.

The reason they have to be on, like you ask in the post about the dealer saying they could run lean, is because they are what creates the resistance in the throat of the carb, for the venturi effect to take place, sucking gas into the engine. Normally, when someone goes to an aftermarket part, like flame arrestor or exhaust, you need to rejet the carbs.........

To clean them. Look them over real well and make sure there is no fiber or paper type product in them (they are normally just stainless mesh) and if they are entirely metal, you can clean them by setting them into a bowl of gasonline (in a well ventilated area) and swashing them around or you can get some carb cleaner and spray through them really well. They don't normally, really need to be cleaned, unless they got saturated with oil.

The clamp..........I can't believe anyone didnt' come up with this. Am I the only McGyver in this forum..........get two clamps. Undo them until the ends come out from the threaded area. Now, take the end of one clamp, screw it into the end of the other clamp. Put the loose end on the other threaded clamp area and "wallah".......you have a large clamp with two different adjustments for tightning it down..............Good luck and if you need an answer, without being hijacked, send me a PM..............
