docking, when do you cut engines

Coming in to dock, starboard side, when do i cut engines on my utopia twin engines

#1 only when stopped?
#2 when moving slow feathering in to the dock?
#3 after I am secured at the dock

I think it is when I am almost stopped and in a drift parallel to the dock.

It is unforgiving at times

When do I give up control?

Thanks

I usually kill em when im lined up where i want to be and i'm barely moving. Then i just let it float in the rest of the way..usually less than a foot. You already gave up control when you pushed the lever back into neutral. Its one of those things that you just gotta get practice. The first year i had my 98, i hit all kinds of stuff. My first time out i bumoed into another boat while docking, a few other times i hit the dock kinda hard. It has a learning curve. Im in the bigger 200 now and i can feather it into just about anywhere.

I shut mine off when I'm pretty much close enough to the dock...I'll shut the engines off and jump offers secure it.
