As in title, what's the difference?
I have been searching, so far I have read that the SPi has a stainless impeller.

I have found folks that link to seadoo history article , but the articles are not clear. At least to me.

Also I thought I had a 1989 but one source says the first SPi came out in 1991. Other information say it came out in 1993. Either way I have a yellow motor and a rear grab handle, but I don't know what year I have?

Can anyone clear this up?

i´ve found this, i dont know if it helps

In 1993 the SPX (587 dual carb), which was basically the 1992 XP, is in the lineup. Sea Doo continued to do that with the SPX for most of the '90s as well. The SP (587 single carb) was offered as well as the SPI (587 single carb) which had a stainless impeller and a different pipe.

Thanks.
From the same article it reads "In 1992, the white 587 engine makes its first appearance and the yellow one is history. "

Mine is a yellow engine so if my quote is true mine should be pre 1992

Also I think the grab handle behind the seat is important to tell me which year I have.

hull vin number doesn´t says the year of fabrication?

Humm.
They talk about deciphering the HIN but not where it is.
I have been googling and some say it is dots punched in the fiberglass under the gas tank or under the engine.

Mine is still quite dirty under the engine but I can look there. Gas tank is still installed.

I will shed some light the early SPI's all started life as SP's, Seadoo sold an SPI kit to do the conversion with. We removed the decals or added decals in some cases, removed the aluminum impeller and installed an 17.7 degree stainless steel impeller, why 17.7, because that is the degree of pitch impeller to allow the stock rev limiter to operate correctly. The 92 models also had the exhaust pipe removed and the pipe was drilled and tapped for an extra fitting, I believe in 94 the SPI's came ready to go in the crate but in the newer style hull .

Thanks,
I found my HIN at the back right side. But it is not a tag just little dimples in the fiberglasss. It is a 1989.
I was just wondering if SPi was a sticker kit you could add. Turns out it is , i do have the stainless impeller.

So now i am compfortable with what machine i have i will proceed with ordering pistons and alll the seals and gaskets.

All the help here is much appreciated.

Oh, i think the grab handle and mirrors were added over the years.

Yes grab handles and mirors were separate options, as were gauge kits, there was also a bording platform option at one time.
