I am looking to buy another seadoo for my son and have looked at MANY of them lately. Last night I looked at a 1997 SPX and a 1998 XP but couldnt tell the difference between them (other than stickers on outside). Is there any?? They both have 787 engines and look exactly the same. I'm assuming there MUST be a difference??

Something isn't right. A 98 XP is a totally different machine. It's seat has suspension, and it has a totally different look.

Now... if you said a 96 xp and a 97 SPX... then, yes... they are the same boat with different stickers.

In 97... the XP became a new design, and the SPX was promoted. (it got the 800 engine)

Last thing... in 98 the XP also got the 947 engine in the limited... and I think the regular one got it too.

You may want to check the years you are talking about.

Yeah something's wrong. A 97 SPX and a 98 XP do not have the same engine. If you've verified the year of the XP (HIN says 98) then it's been tampered with and has a HIN plate from a different one. Stay away from it or call the police.
