Hello.. 1998 sportster 1800

I need to repair my starboard motor and would appreciate some info to get me started.

Problem; poor to no acceleration, makes whining sound in water while trying to accelerate. I can see impeller turning while on the trailer.

Compression on motor is good
Idles on trailer at 3k
Idles in water now between 2k-2.5k. (in water 1.5k before problem)

I'm assuming theres a problem between crankshaft and pump when under load. If so, how can I check drive line at different points to narrow down the issue??

Any guidance is appreciated...

Thanks

Maybe the driveshaft splines are stripped. Take the jet drive off to inspect the ends.

If you can't take it apart for whatever reason, I suppose you could block the impeller and see if you can turn the pto hub by hand to see which end is slipping

Making progress... Could this be the problem??

So I pulled pump and driveline. Pump looked ok. Cone full of oil. Splines looked good on driveshaft.

So I dug a little deeper. When I pulled driveshaft from PTO the rubber bumper was gone. The grease inside PTO fitting was chunky so I'm assuming the bumper got chewed up in there.

Is it possible my PTO is bad???

The splines in PTO are flattened a little but ridges between splines are still there. I used an impeller tool to remove the PTO also so it is still catching.

Or.. Could all the slippage be coming from the missing driveshaft bumper?? Misaligning the system.

Thanks
