My 2006RXT had a Dess Post lanyard key problem, it wouldn’t always connect and run on either the learner key or the full speed key.
The keys worked fine on my 2008, but wouldn’t start the 2008 because of the different codes ect.
Sometimes if I tapped the post with a screw driver the 2006 would run fine, this worked for awhile until it quit working all together.
I replaced the Dess Post and everything worked except for the hi speed setting.
Learner key works great at 35 mph or 5000 rpm as it did before.
Hi speed key works at 50 mph at 6900 rpm, originally it worked at 67 mph at 8100 rpm the same as my 2008 GTX.
I assume the key went back to factory default and runs at the lower setting.
Do I need to have the key reprogrammed or is there a simple fix to get my key running at top speed?
The post I replaced was a simple 3 wire and the new post was the same.

If you don't have a CanDoo, get one. That way you can attach the key to the post and query the ECU. You will also be able to code the keys to work on your 2008.

The D.E.S.S. is a magnetic switch. When you put the lanyard on the post, you close the switch and power up the M.P.E.M & ECU. The ECU stores the codes for the keys. If you have lost RPM, that's "High speed key works at 50 mph at 6900 rpm, originally it works at 67 mph at 8100 rpm....", that's not a function of the key, it's more likely you have another problem. In my case, it was an exhaust leak.

Yes it’s just a magnet that I can feel when it was working, a simple switch yes, tapping with the screwdriver got working until it failed.
How an exhaust was created in a 24 hr period after changing the post doesn’t make sense.

I agree with you that it makes sense it’s either the key or the post and hopefully not something else. Does your multifunction display say which key it is recognizing? Learner, normal, or rental. On my 2011 the only key that will limit top speed to 55 is the rental key. So maybe the new post messed up the key programs and the normal key needs to be reprogrammed. Maybe.

I didn’t disconnect the battery when I changed out the post, I’m guessing this may have changed my programming.
The learning key shows up as L-Key on the display as it always did when plugged in. The normal key doesn’t display anything as before, I just get the normal beeps ready to start.
