DESS Lanyard

My lanyard is shot. Can I cut it off and just buy a new lanyard to attach to the DESS key?

Is it the stretchy cord or the part that goes over the DESS?

The stretchy part is bad. What happens if I cut it under where the foam cushion is? Is that the DESS or is it the thing that plugs into the port on the dash?

No part of the cord has to do with the DESS. You are safe cutting it. Any local marine store will have something similar to replace it. Almost all small/sport boats have them as well.

Thanks Coastiejow for the quick response. I cut it and put the new cord on last night and started the engines to make sure. Good as new!
