Depth finder...?

I just went to the BRP website and looked at your specs. It says it comes with an 18 function digital readout including the compass and water temp but does not mention the depth finder.

I think the easiest way to find out would be to look for the transponder. You have to have this to shoot the bottom and bounce the signal. It should be somewhere near the rear of the boat, where it maintains constant contact with the water, un-affected by aeration. In the hull, motor compartment, just forward of the transom. Or, maybe integrated in the speedo.

If you'd like to check out your specs, go to www.seadoo.com and look in the owners center for previous models..........

No it was not standard on the 2008 model, only standard on the 2009 model onwards, you can get it added as an option but on the 2008.

Depth Finder on your '08 Speedster

I found out the same thing. The Depth Finder is an option that connects to the boat's computer and activates the dash area under the tach. The problem is the price SeaDoo wants for the unit and the fact that you must bring the boat in to a dealer to let the reprogram the computer to recognize it. I found this link for $320 from outside dealer and $339 from SeaDoo

Many poeple have stated the Hawkeye Unit is the one to buy and install yourself. It's also inexpensive. There was a writeup some months ago on this forum.

I also did some research and found a Hummingbird unit that might work.

I don't know which of the 2 after market ones would be better. Anyone have any advice?

I did the write up on the Hawk Eye and I have never had an issue yet. Mine in my 200 speedster is accurate up to about 55mph...It only loses signal when I have the boat 6' out of the water jumping waves. I'd buy another one in a hart beat. I have recommended it to about 15 other members and they all like it's performance. I have no connection to the company, I purchased it from e-bay after researching the product.

could you post a pic of where you put the transducer Karl? I mounted mine on the transom to the left of speedo but only getting - - - on the display unit, hoping I have something only out of adjustment!

easier I guess if I put a pic up and you guys comment. Looking now I think I need to adjust the transducer to make it more parallel with the hull of the boat/water? Thanks for any input!

Hi everybody. I know this is an old post but, does anybody have a pic of where to plug the OEM depth finder on a 2008 Speedster 150? Thanks

I found it. There is an OEM conector with a plug on the rear right side of the engine, it is only to conect there and set up with the OEM software. Simply and easy when you know where and how.

I have the Lowrance Elite 5m. It's a finder / gps combo. We mounted the transducer in the hull just in front of the engine, close to the middle of the boat. This got a good read at low speeds and when stationary, but lost depth readings when at speed. We respositioned it yesterday to inbetween the motor and the pump, on the theory that this section of the hull is the most likely to keep contact with the water's surface. I mentioned to him that the stock Seadoo transducers are positioned underneath the engine, but that's a PIA to retrofit.

The marine electrician who did the work said if this fails then an external mounting the transducer will be necessary because you can't upgrade the Lowrance transducers to a more a powerful one. Not keen on this because it could get knocked around when boarding etc but at least I could then get a thermometre reading!

Will keep you posted on how the relocation works out.

I'll keep you guys posted on how it works out.
