Ok so over the last couple days ive had a problem not sure if its th d.e.s.s key or not. But sometime the boat wont start hit the start botton and get nothing so i pull the key out and repet that a couple time then it will start and other time it just fires up no problem. Im thinkin it might just be the start/stop switch cuz when i putt the d.e.s.s key in it beeps to let me know everything good to go. anyone else have this problem.

Common problem...like 40 post a week...
I would start by cleaning the Post on the safety lanyard. It is beeping and saying it isn't connecting to the Mpem, (Multi Purpose Electronic Module) It needs to beep 2 times to let you know it is ready to start. Clean the post and cap with soapy water. Don't use any grease of lubricant on it as it needs a clean connection to make contact. Connect the lanyard to see if it is making a connection. 2 beeps and it's ready to fire up.

Here is the next step if it still gives you trouble before you replace the post.
Engine start/stop switch verification;
Disconnect the Yellow/Red wire of the start/stop switch. Using an ohmmeter, connect test probes to the Yellow/Red wire and to ground. Measure resistance, it must be an open circuit (switch is normally open). Depress and hold switch, the ohmmeter should read close to “0” ohm.

Safety Lanyard Switch Verification;
If 2 short beeps are not heard when installing the safety lanyard, disconnect the switch wires.
Safety lanyard removed;
connect the test probes to switch Black and Black/Yellow wires. It’s an open circuit, there should be no continuity.
Connect one test probe to the White/Gray wire and the other test probe to the switch terminal. Measure resistance, it should be “0” ohm. Connect one test probe to the Black wire and the other test probe to the switch ring. Measure resistance, it must be close to “0” ohm.
Safety lanyard on switch; connect the probes to switch Black and Black /Yellow wires. Measure resistance, it must be “0” ohm.
Timer Verification;
The timer is integrated into the MPEM. Always confirm that the fuses are in good condition. To confirm operation of timer, remove the safety lanyard from switch. After 5 seconds delay, depress start/stop button once. The timer should stay on for 33 seconds (for example, the gauge(s) will be activated) and than turn off.

I hope this helps...let me know how you make out.

Post?....

Hey Karl, if you remember right, his symptoms seem to be identical to my post going bad last year. Since I replaced it, haven't had a bit of problems with that "no start" issue.

But, he's got a 2004, I think its very possible that he may have salt or somthing in his cap......

:agree: with you....Do the tests first that Karls describing, but don't be surprised if that magnetic is shot...........:cheers:

Very nice, no idea what mine does and even if it did 60 id still be one of the slowests on the lake lol, are doral does 65mph and most of my neighbors boats will do 80 & 90+ mph. But the doo's really shine when it come to the turns though.

No salt water where i am, but ya im going to try cleaning it and see what happens, and i also just remember i have an extra d.e.s.s key so ill try that to... thanks everyone for the good advice...

this might be a stupid question but when the key is in and boat is off it beeps about ever 20-30sec doesnt stop doing that, that just to remind you the key is in or something?

KEy.....

You said you'd try another key..........well, if it's the post, the key won't matter.

IF you put that lanyard on and it doesn't give you the two beeps or if your hauling butt and it shuts down on you suddenly, then it's probably going to be the magnetic post............:cheers:

Its never stoped on me when im driving, only had trouble with it starting.... do these boats have a neutral saftey switch???? maybe i should look at that aswell if it has one

Ok so my bro was at the cottage today got him to try cleaning the other d.e.s.s key and still had the same problem with it not starting, only happend once and was fine the rest of the day so i guess that rules out it being a problem with the key.

Update... The ring on the post that the dess key snaps on to was coming lose, so got a new one for free from the dealer and havent had anymore problems since, so fingers crossed hope that was the problem...

2004 Speedster 200 310hp 4 beeps every 3 seconds with no dess key in ignition

I turn the battery to on and the gauges turn on and I get 4 beeps every 3 seconds or so with no key and I push a starter button and it just primes the fuel pump on each engine but does not turn the starter? My yellow with black stripe wire broke of in the fuse block so I wired it to the other fuse block. Manual says its a17 and is a relay. Any ideas? magnet stuck to on in dess? even with lanyard connected nothing starts?

But why would the starter button activate the fuel pump if it was broken. I think its something by the fuse block or is there a starter fuse somewhere that blew?

I fixed it

Turns out it was the dess that was stuck to on like a key was connected. I took it out and hit it on top to release the magnet then connected the lanyard and both engines started right up!
