I ahve a SP 587 that cuts out at WOT after about 1 or 2 minutes of running. I've rebuilt the carb twice, new plugs, and fuel filter but it still is the same. Most of this work was doen by a professional. It seems that this could be temperature related as it takes a minute to start messing up. Ideas??

I have a 97 gsx that had a similar problem. Turned out that the stator/trigger housing was full of water and oil mixture from the previous owner sinking it and not fixing it proberly and water and oil being blown past the seal in the block. It was shorting the trigger out after a few minutes of riding. Take that cover off and see if it is all dirty and full of water/oil, clean it out the best you can and put it back together. If not successful then the trigger might be failing.

Where is the stator/trigger housing?
Sounds like this could be my problem. It effects only one cylinder.

This is what was suggested to me in a PM.
I have not tried this but it has been suggested that it could be a failed rectifier. If so there is an easy test. Just disconnect the red wire, which will disable the battery charging circuit, if the miss goes away the rectifier needs to be replaced. You the machine will start and run ok with the lead off, but the battery will slowly discharge. It should be fine for a test ride of up to 1/2 hr. But, don't leave it disconnected, eventually the battery will go low and ignition and cranking will be disabled.

It's an easy test and fix if that's the problem.

Let us know.

For the record... disconnecting the red wire did not solve my lack of power problem.
