Just picked up what I think is a great deal fro a 2007, low hour, Challenger SE from the States and am picking it up next week.

Only down side is there is no Tower with the boat.

Now, I really want a tower, I love the look of the Sea Doo tower, but I aint going to shell out one third of what I paid for the boat on an aluminum tower?????? How the hell they justify it I dont know??? Anyway, I have looked at the Monster towers and dont mind the look of the MT3, but I was wondering has anyone ever built a replica of the official Sea Doo tower and if so, what did it cost and what issues did you have with fitting it to the boat?

Also, any other manufacturesr out there I should be looking at?

Thanks

Davo

I can just share my limited after-market tower experience.

I have an Islandia that I use on a Nova Scotia lake. Factory towers are available on some, and SeaDoo does not make it's own after-market tower for the Islandia.

After a lot of internet searching, reading reviews, etc.... I went with a monster tower. It was easily installed (I let a local dealer I trust do it in a few hours), easily breaks-down for storing/winterizing, and is rock-solid for boarding, tubing (and diving off of!).

Monster (and most of the good, high-volume sites) usually have decent gallery pages so you can see if you'll like the look on something close to your boat.

Good luck..............JB

tower for Challenger 180 - 2008

Okay, I too am sick of the $1000 tinker-toy towers, and refuse to pay $3000 for the factory tower. I have a buddy with a hydralic bender, and we are either going to build one in 1.25" stainless, or plain thin-wall and then have it power coated. We are going to mock it up using used pvc pipe. We figure we can get the powder coated version done for under $300. We should have it done by Easter. - I guess I sell the plans for a few bucks and maybe make a little 'bad economy' money, I could use it

Good luck with the DIY Tower. An SS tower would be sweet!!

I just bought a 205 Utopia and looks like I am moving forward with a Sampson tower.
It probably is one of the most expensive, but I think the model I am going with (Saber) is a very very strong bolt on tower which will be custom built for that specific boat.
I also plan on getting lots of add-ons, heavy duty salt water primer, powder coated BLACK,weld on rod holders (4 on top across back and 1 on each side), the ski Tow post on top with LED nav light, speakers, 4 halogen lights pointing back, VHF & GPS antena brackets.
Here are a couple of pics of the tower on a sea doo utopia 205

The samson tower looks awsome. Myself I purchased a monster tower for my 2008 speedster installed it on my own and loved the thing. It was quiet strong and looked fantastic. I now own a 2009 180 challenger 215hp and I will buy another monster tower MT2. My dilemma .... I can install the tower myself ... but ... Does anyone know how i can access the hull. On my speedster I went through the throttle plate and cup holder for the front mounts. Not quite sure with the challenger. I would prefer not to drill access holes in the glove box. ????? please help and good luck to all looking for towers. The seadoo tower looks great but c'mon the $$$ not !!!

dont knowhow i missed this thread, i have exactly built a tower moddled after stock on my 2007 challenger 180, drawn it in cad, i forget the pipe size but ill post pic later when i get time. i regret not making it higher and it dosent fold, but i built it all for under 200, 50 of that to get it wielded by buddy. (not impressed by wields but cant complain)
