I've seen a plethora of Threads on the SDF addressing preferences for oil, its high cost, the difference between TCW-3 and API TC, Wal Mart v Quicksilver et al, however, a cost that is never addressed is fuel consumption, On that note is the reason for this Thread.
Since summer is just about over for those of us who are fortunate enough to live in CA or FL, to get ready for April 2013, I thought the time has come to address this issue. Hopefully enough members hang out here during the winter so this Thread can get some valid data on how far our PWC's will go on a tank of gas.
Here goes mine:
1997 Kawi 1100 STX - 120 hp; 6500-7150 rpms; 14 gal tank; 595 lbs; Pennzoil XLF - - cruising range 60 miles at 25-30 mph on the Colorado River in Parker, AZ.
I got about 50 miles on a tank cruising at 38-48 mph.
My data was taken from the gauges on my Kawi which reflects both miles driven and time.
On a side note, BoatTest.Com publishes information about cruising ranges for various PWC's, however, most of the info relates to newer PWC's. That said, even if you have an older PWC it may be worthwhile to take a look because you may find yourself as fortunate as I to find helpful info. In my case, BoatTest.Com addressed my 1997 Kawi 1100STX and the test results reflected a cruising range of 70 miles, ten less than I actually experienced.
That said, water conditions can definitely effect cruising ranges, so, that is a factor to consider
