I just picked up a 98 GTX, great shape but the motor is locked up completely, not movement in the crank, rods or piston. Looks like a bearing went out, hopefully when I get everything apart Ill be able to tell why. SO far, Ive been spraying pblaster down the cylinders, and today I took off the bottom crank cover and sprayed more lube on the bottom side of the cyl. I tried beating the hell outta the cylinders with a hammer and piece of wood, but no luck so far. Anyone got a trick for getting stuck cyl off?

happened to my first boat. Beat the crap out of piston with piece of wood, able to get enuf slack in there, to get sawzall blade and cut the rod in half. Then removed cylionder, to beat on piston some more..

Yep, figured that was the only way as well. 45 minutes with a hammer and the pistons moved about an inch and a half. The pistons didnt show any problems (until the hammer that is) Looks like it sat for too long. Im gonna try to get it out without cutting the rod though, I cant see any signs of a problem besides the piston rusting to the cylinder and dont want to destroy anything I dont have too. The bearing in the pic still spins, amazingly. The bottom end of these engines seem to seal up really well.

problem is, with all the force raining down on piston, the vibration will, and more than likely need a "hone" to see, but cause cracks in the sleeve/s...

So you are saying new sleeves, or a bore? I was planning on .75 mm, but you may have a point...

you can up to a 2.0mm on a 951 cylinder, .75mm is no big deal. most of the rusty ones I do only need a .5mm and have the machine shop magnaflux to test for cracks
