Hi guys. Just joined the forum and hoping you can help with a couple of things on my challenger 1800.
My ignition barrel won't turn so I think I need a new one, can I get a universal barrel? If so is it pretty simple wiring etc?
I also need a new boat cover, any recommendations? I live in he UK so is there anywhere that deals with seadoo challenger parts etc?
Many thanks in advance
Liam

What year is the boat?

What engine does it have?

What's an "Ignition Barrel"? (Explanation or a picture)

We always like to recommend Poppy Covers. The owner really cares, and is willing to help if there are any problems. AND... as far as I know... she will ship to the UK. I would recommend contacting Poppy Covers and talk with Terry.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
The boat is a 2003 with a merc 240 v6.
By the barrel I mean where you put the key in and turn on, it isn't letting me start, just turns the whole unit and lock ring like is is seized or somthing.
Does poppy covers deal with seadoo covers or is it just a universal cover. ie does it have the ratchet strap on the side?
Many thanks
Liam

The Poppy covers are specific fit covers. (not universal) and yes... there is a ratchet strap that goes around the bottom of the covers.

OK... so the key isn't happy. (and yes, the insert is called a barrel, but I was thinking engine) Have you tried to simply reach around, and hold the key switch? I know on my boat, the entire switch was warn, and didn't fit the hole very well. AND, as I would try to turn the key, the entire assembly would twist. I fixed mine, by removing the switch, and putting a good double side tape on it (3M Body trim tape) and then reinstalling the switch. Once the front nut was snug... it provided enough "Grip" to hold the switch, while I turned the key.

BUT... if it's truly stuck... I would still remove it, and look at the code on the witch, to make sure you have the right key.

If neither one of those works out... a replacement assembly will be needed. The Key is a Mercury part... and not a Seadoo Part. But, unfortunately... you will have to find a Mercury dealer in the UK, since the USA dealers won't ship out of the country.

Here's my current collection of Poppy covers......

Tony, do you leave your skis out in the winter like that or tarp over them? I have Poppy covers and been tarping them in the winter but that's been causing mildew on the outside of the covers.

I pull the covers, and tarp them. Since the covers are fabric... if they get wet, and freeze... it may destroy them. But, as soon as the freeze is over... the tarps come off, and the covers go back on. AND... they sit outside all year long.

hmm, I never thought to take the covers off before tarping. I'll give that a try this year!
Now I need to find a place to store my poppy covers, you know how crowded my shed is with the tools and prison shanks!

If you take a plastic bag and put it on the deck and a small 5 pound bag of charcoal and put it on the bag and slice it wide open it absorbs odors, moisture and prevents mold. You want CHEAP non-coated charcoal.

Works very well.
