Hi All; I'm brand new to these forums, and just hate to ask a question caused by me not knowing much about jet boats. I just bought this boat a week ago, and already, it needs some repairs. Not knowing that the impeller is engaged even when the boat is in neutral, I got too close to shore and sucked up some rocks. Well, the boat does not go any longer. What am I looking at ,cost wise, to replace the white wear ring (come out in little pieces), and the impeller? This looks to be chipped up too, with little chunks missing. I also seem to have an oil leak from the back of the engine; this wasn't caused by the rock mishap. Any idea what this could be, a rear seal of somekind? I was so excited to get the boat out on the lake, but quickly this excitment turned to real disappointment, and a real bummer. I'm almost afraid to get it fixed and try it again. This boat has the 215 hp engine, and I test drove it before I bought it. I did get the boat up to 60 mph, so is there a chance, I could have blown a seal? Thank you for any help, you may provide.

The impeller and wear ring should not be too bad to repair, if you have any kind of experience turning wrenches (or a friend who has) then you will be able to do this yourself, there are pretty detailed instructions on this forum about that process. Cost wise, it depends which impeler you decide to go with, but I would suggest you could get the impeller and wear ring done for under $300 if you do it yourself. As for the oil leak, tough one to diagnose without further information, try taking a photo of where it is coming out from or the general area at the very least and some of the more techy guys on here should be able to help

Ok, I got the wear ring and impeller fixed. Now, after testing and looking for oil leak, which the repair guy says he can't find, he said the engine overheated and it's shot. He said an option would be to put in a new engine. Well, after just paying $9000 for this boat, and paying him $600 to fix the wear ring and impeller, he wants to install a new engine. I can't believe, anyone worth their salt, can't fix an engine, or find an oil leak. Would you believe that I haven't even gotten this boat in the lake yet, and most likely won't this year.

I think you have been hosed. Why does he think the engine is shot? What exactly is it doing? Have you started it back up? What was it doing last time you actually used it. As far as the wear ring and impeller, what was the 600 for? Whats the break down....what did he do with the impeller? you could have fixed it yourself back to stock for under $150. Any decent mechanic should have been able to get you fixed for $300-$400 in my opinion. Unless you upgraded to an aftermarket impeller. Even then, I think 500 should have been the max. Just seeing how much he got you for on that, makes me think he is scamming you on the engine.
