Considering a 2-up w/ HO engine

Hey everyone,

did some research the past couple days and stopped into a dealer today. I've always wanted a jet ski and the spark seems perfect for me. (right size, right price). after talking to the salesman and seeing both in front of me, I'm looking to pull the trigger on a 2up w/ the HO engine (plus they have a couple discounted 2015s in stock).

Before I get in over my head, I was wondering what kind of insight any current owners could give me. How reliable are they? Any common hull/engine issues? How serviceable is the ski (in terms of DIY repairs/maintenance)? Any common faults I should know about? It'll only be run in fresh water during the summers.

Thanks for any input guys. Hoping to join the leagues as a spark owner in the near future!!

The engines are very proven... Few issues there. There was a recall on the handlebars, they would break. Make sure that TSB/Recall is done.

The hulls are plastic and we have seen some hulls get serious damage. That said, it isn't common, but it does happen..

The H/O and the standard engine are identical. The difference is unlocking the MPEM (Which is also identical, just needs to be unlocked).
JoeZ, what is the cost to unlock it through you?

What I would do is see what it cost to unlock it here vs, buying it unlocked from the dealer..

glad to hear the engine's been proven. in regards to the hull damage, in what light is it? accidents? just not responding well to normal wear & tear?

$925 for right now with our V-Tech tuning bubdle for the Spark. It'll take both the 60hp or 90hp Spark and produce 110hp through a reliable tune. You can push it further as well with either e85 or a beta tunes. Between this and an impeller, it really wakes up the ski.

Hulls. Mostly when it is hit by something. But recently had one split nearly front to back on the starboard side and he was just cruising on the water. Again, thousands have been sold. So this issue is not the norm. But does happen.

Got it. Thanks for the input guys. Hoping to go through with it in a week or two.

How DIY-friendly are they? Can any major/minor repairs be done on my own? I work on my own car a lot so I'm no stranger to wrenches, but I know sea doo designed this ski to be a little more hands-off.

Nice thing about the Spark is you can remove the whole top deck and have a TON of access to everything. Makes wrenching super easy.

If I were you I'd either go with a base 60hp model (and then do the tune) or get a 90hp with the iBR. I wanted the iBR strictly because it allows for VTS to be installed later. Turns out the iBR is actually alot more useful and fun than expected. Being able to stop ultra fast and being able to slow down and make micro adjustments when coming up to the trailer, dock other ski etc etc.
