consequences of starter solenoid sticks

as the titles says, what are the consequences of starter solenoid sticks on.
Just happened once and we have no gas in the engine yet. but what if we had?

Nothing pretty.
Starter could explode due to excess RPM (if the starter gear does not disengage). Damaged starter gear (about $40). Damaged flywheel gear (about $200). Dead battery. Burned out voltage regulators.

OEM solenoids have some issues. From sticking ON to premature failure OFF.

Thanks Tim. I know the solenoid is riveted closed but i think i might open it up. See if it can be cleaned.
It only stuck once, and has been good since, but it is a little unnerving.
Still no gas in the engine, but there will be soon.

The rivet heads can be ground off and the contact bar cleaned up. There is a fine wire inside that is welded in place for security. Delicate. Use 3mm screws and nuts for reassembly. But I do not recommend it. Dissect it for learning, but replace it.
