So here's what we did today. . .I took the fuel baffle out and installed a new float. . .That didn't fix it. Took it back out and cut it open and the fuse was bad. So We fixed that. Put it back in and voila it worked.

Changed the spark plugs. Changed the lube in the pump. . .that went smooth except for we found no cork or rubber washers on those screws. But the oil looked great. We attempted the Stator oil change but could not get the stator housing off. ..Not sure if I am calling it the right thing. . .so we skipped that (for now).

Put her all back together and took it to the river. Left it on the trailer and started it. It smoked a little. Then it died and we could not get it started again. So there on the river we put the old spark plugs back in but it still would not start.

Upon further investigation the carbs appear to not be getting any fuel. ALSO there is a module on the right side (as you are standing in the boat looking at the engine) that was clicking. It Clicks when you turn the battery on and when you turn the key on before it starts turning over.

What have I done that would make it not Fire? Could that module be bad? Coincidence? I had NEVER heard that clicking sound before.

The picture is your "Lift pump". It primes the system when the engine isn't cranking. Once it starts... the pulse pump feeds the carbs.

Since you had the baffle out... I'd say you probably have a fuel line lose, and you are sucking air.

hummmm We checked those. . .cause hubby was QUITE sure that I didn't put it back together right. . .But I labeled all of the lines. Labeled the baffle and put everything back. . .He put the little clips back on the fuel lines that go on top of the baffle cause my hands weren't strong enough. . .
To dark to check it now but I will first thing in the morning.

But what about that ticking sound? I've never heard that sound before. Hubby said the same thing. . .

In this picture I circled the module

Page 1C-10 of the manual. K is what it's pointing to.. Says Pump relay. BUT THIS says Model 240 HP Port View. Oh my lordy. I NEED to check Serial numbers tomorrow don't I? It is NOT a Challenger 2000. It's a year 2000 Challenger Model 1800.

Yes... the little box in the middle of the picture is the relay. It's basically a switch that turns on the pump at the bottom of the picture.

That pump supply fuel during start up. You may never have heard it before, because it's only running/functioning when the key is first turned on.

Please post a picture of:

1) The boat

2) your HIN tag. (hull number)

3) The engine overall.

This is just to make sure of what you have. Don't worry... we will get you running again !!

Here are the Pics you requested.

OK... you have a 1999, 210 HP engine with carbs. And, I will assume the boat is closer to a 2000 year model.

Since you think the carbs are dry... do this:

1) give the air box a shot of starter fluid, and make sure the engine will start.

2) Assuming it will start... pull the hose, off the bottom of that pump and make sure you can draw fuel up that hose. AND... make sure you can blow into the pump. FYI... the mettle hose fitting on the bottom of the pump is a very small filter. If it's plugged, you won't get any fuel.

Is it possible that the relay has gone bad? Be a quick and easy check, looks like your typical relay...could probably go under the hood of your car and grab a relay out and try it in it's place (provided that it's a typical/standard relay).

I only suggest this because you mention that you hadn't noticed noise from the relay previously and it's a quick and easy thing to rule out by swapping it with a known good relay.

The Doctor was correct with his FIRST diagnosis. . .

I RE-checked the hoses. All were in place and tight. No fuel was coming out of the hose to provide fuel to the carbs.

I removed the hoses and took the baffle back out. I looked down into the nipples and low and behold you could see where when cutting into the baffle we had cut into the fuel tube. So we plugged that nipple off using a rubber cap and a small clamp. Stuck and big screw into that fuel line with a clamp around it. Plugged all of the remaning hoses back into the baffle. Turned the key and she started right up.

SO. . . .your original diagnosis of sucking air was correct.

I need to start another thread as I stated in my first post we COULD NOT get the stator housing off to be able to change the oil. IT WAS STUCK AND STUCK GOOD! and is that called a Stator housing?
