Since the thread on the "a look inside the 787" has been created and locked, I have had several requests for a way to post a question or add to a point I"ve made in the thread.

I closed the thread, not because I didn't want to hear response or debate, I didn't want to clutter the thread with many, many posts when members are looking to scan through it, to solve a problem.

Please, feel free to ask a question here, in this thread. PLEASE, make note of the post number you have in question so I'll know what to refer to.

Thanks for your understanding and thanks for the members who came up with the idea of creating a discussion thread for the "787cc"......

Louis it looks to me as you have done a outstanding job with detailed info and photos on the 787. I would not expect less from you as all of your work is of a high degree of intellect. I just hope that you are recieving some form of compensation even if comes in the form of a Sincere Gratitude. Keep it comeing. :hurray:

Opinions....

Out of all in the forum Robin, I believe your opinion means more to me than any other forum of gratitude. I remember when we first met, your old saying, "but I could be wrong"... Now, I realize your saying it like this guy on TV used to do it, "Columbo". He always made it look like he wasn't totally informed, but he was a super smart individual.......

I had some bad news today when I opened up the 787cc. The pistons, both of them, are scored really bad and way ouf of specs. I'm either going to need to do an upper end or replace the motor. The engine is original and after 12 years, I think I got my monies worth.

I hope to split the casing tomorrow to take a peak at that CB shaft. Not to say there is a "right or wrong", just to see if we can get more info on it, maybe take a different angle on it........., just something different.

We also had a few memebers in the forum this year with the same issue, "how did it remain lubricated"...... This model was suppose to have the 30 weight engine oil, so I'm going to be curious to see if it's there.

I promise, you will be the very first one to know! Maybe we can hook up via web cam, and I'll take it apart with you looking on........

Just glad your back, your opinions are important to the members in the forum.

Have a safe and Merry Christmas.

Oh, the pix I'm taking for my engine rebuild for the Challenger, I"m putting in the "a look inside the 787" thread. That way, I 'll be able to continue to update it as I go along......

Maybe Socrates is in my DNA as it seems that I was using his philosophy before I had discovered his work or should I say the work of others that wrote of him. If I only had his wisdom. How much beter off I would be. lol  [The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing] I still ask myself why did he make so many references or quotes to that type of quote. I guess I will never know!

Oh, did I tell you that I was a decendant of Socrates........LOL, J/K. That really wasn't a good joke.

I"ll let you know about the motor. I'm kinda bummed but at least I still got my GTX. Oh, thats right, I don't think I told you about my PWC purchase this year. I got to send you a pix. It looks like it came off the showroom floor.

Oh, look up in the tool bar for "user galleries". You'll see a pix of it from our "seadoo meetup". I took several pix and a lot were submitted.

I have the speedster with twin 787's is there a section for scheduled , such maintenance as oil, and greasing of the bearings, wear rings. More interested in what bearings need to be regreased than anything. Had the manual, but can't find it right now...Thanks

hey man this is just a question about you boat, i am thinking about trading my jet skis in for a boat similar, is the twin motors good in your opinion? thanks you got more pics of your rig looks sweet thanks

Go twin for sure.. Mercury did make a single , but no longer and you can't get service for the single real easy, so go with the twin seadoo engines definately..

Maintenance..>?

No, not really. As long as you grease the fitting at the PTO hub and do the regular yearly maintenance, like changing oil in the pump, you should be good.

The 787 is one of the easiest motors to maintain.

The balance shaft oil is suppose to be checked annually now. My motor does not have this plug for checking it. BUt, the biggest problem with having that plug is overfilling. There is only suppose to be one ounce in that void. If you put to much more than that, the pressure and friction will blow out your seals, eventually blowing out the side of the casing from overheating.

So, when you look into that hole, just shine a light in there and if you see oil, then leave it alone.

Yo Snipe

Hey you really seem to have your 787 stuff together and in fact it's part of the reason I joined here. I'm going to post the same thread I created and was wondering if you could help me out. I just recently brought a 1997 Sea Doo speedster with twin 787's and was wondering why whoever owned it last would've by-passed the MPEM to start the left engine?....If I start the right then the left will start no problem but upon taking a closer inspection I saw that they cut the left start button wire at the first junction and ran two new wires. I followed the new wires and I saw they go to the Electric box where they are directly hooked up to the cellenoid......Odd but it works, only problem is I can't start the left engine without starting the right first.....Very Weird....well anyway I'm new to the forum and thanks for any replies.....Also what is the best type of battery to use as the previous owner had a car battery in there....Boat works so I'm happy, just puzzled. Thanks buddy.

hello there !i own a 1997 seadoo challenger, and am planning to overhaul it..the current compression reading is 120 and 90 psi.
my question is,i don't have access to a cherry picker, can 2-3 people possibly take the engine out of the compartment? how heavy is the engine?. i'm thinking of bringing my 2 friends in to help me out...any ideas?
and what tool did you use to remove the old sleeve? thanks!!

..more questions to come..ty

Hello, you should b able to get the engine with eas with 2 ppl. I pulled my 787 out of my jet ski by myself. They weight prob 80 pounds if I were to guess. Minus the exhaust n all. Good luck

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with the thread lately. I've been really involved with my kids sports, doing some work on my 1953 house and rebuilding and installing a new motor in my Challenger.

But, to answer the question of weight, I believe the 787 weighs about 85 pounds. I lift this motor in and out by myself. But, I'm only about 170 lbs, so I'm small enough to get down into the engine compartment to wrestle it a little bit. In taking out this motor, I remove the tuned pipe and carbs (carbs just to ensure I don't damage them). If your upper end is what your going to do, then you can go ahead and remove the cylinders while it's intstalled. The more you pull off the motor, the easier and lighter it is to remove and put back in.

When pulling the engine do you need to pull the pump? It looks like from the pics you may have left yours intact and slid it off the front of the shaft?

You can get Way wit pulling it with out removing it. But its easier when its out and you will have to have it out to put motor back in to align.

I recently purchased 1998 speedster and the right motor has no power to the on off switch. I was told it is the mpem. I would like to try your fix rather than spending $1800 for a new mpem. Could you send me the details exactly where these 2 wires connect to and from? I would really appreciate your help.
