just lauched my boat for the first time today and ran into a problem with my oil alarm, so I played it safe put it back on the trailer and took it home. come to find out that the oil filter was collapsed, wondering what would cause that? I have tried to look around the forums, could someone point me in the direction of any similar post.

First time out?
Did you change the oil/filter or someone else before you bought it or part of the sale?

It is not uncommon for some to change the oil without changing the filter... I always replace my filter; just something I do.
Anyway, if this is the case; you may simply not know how old the filter was. In the same subject; the wrong oil weight can restrict the filter..
If this oil/filter is your install, it is possible to damage the filter during the install.

Worse case scenario is that you are getting some antifreeze into the oil and clogging the filter.
Check your oil for any sign of milky appearance and fill your coolant your reservoir to a specific line or mark it with a sharpie.

You could always start with a new oil filter and see if it was simply a faulty mesh screen.

Try a new filter, some aftermarket filters are junk. If it does it again it is you could have water in the oil or possible a bad oil pressure regulator.

Well when I bought the boat the one engine was hydrolocked, I had cleaned it pretty good and soaked it with WD then blew it out with air hose, I repeated that about 5 times, then changed the oil and filter with all oem from dealer. I figured I'd run it on the water for an hour or so and then change the oil again. The oil isn't milky but it is brown, probably from rust, Compression is good, coolant level is good, Ive been reading and most likely it still had a bit of water in it which caused the filter to colapse. Is there away to flush the oil or do I just have to do several oil changes, what about the boil out procedure.
