Coding lanyard for 96 GSX and 2009 RXTiS

Just pickup up a 2009 RXTiS and was hoping to get the lanyard coded so I could use the same lanyard for the 96 GSX and the 09 RXTiS. The dealer said the GSX used a different technology than the RXTiS so it would not be possible to use the same lanyard for both machines. (Actually he said the tool to program the lanyard was different for the different machines).

Was wondering if anyone else had run into the same situation with the older and newer machines and if there was a workaround.
