2003 GTI LE RFI I think this might be putting a drain on the battery. When I shut it down for the winter last year the battery was down. Bought a new one just to get to the trailer, it sits on my houseboat all summer. Same thing this spring, clicking sound when hooking battery cables up. So I am unhooking negative cable after each use. Any idea what is causing this? Starting lanyard is not connected. THANKS

Draw

most likely you have an electrical draw do you have an clock or digital tach on your ski. There is a way to combats this get a automatic trickel charger and hook it up after you ride it will know the battery fresh and the battery draw at bay.

Are you sure you are not hearing a spark jump when you hook up the second wire?

They make inline switches that you can mount and switch off the battery when not in use. I have one on the back of my car for a kill switch...just to the left of the fuel cap.

They make them for marine use as well. They will stop ALL drain on the battery, and no fear of setting off a spark near the gas tank when rehooking the wires.

No, this is a definite click of a relay or such kicking in. There is definitely a draw on the battery. Just finished checking with a digital multimeter.

What is the relay that is clicking? the starter relay? Is it only clicking when you attach the battery cables or when you try to start it?

He stated this is an RFI. Fuel injected ski. the sound you are hearing is a fuel system relay. the batt is connected it is readying itself to put the key on and start. there is a timeout delay in the MPEM that keeps it from draining your Batt. but every time you reconnect the batt it cycles to ready mode before timing out.

Im not saying you dont have something draining your batt... im just saying the click you her is not it.

I have a similar problem with a GSX Limited I just bought. I found that if I disconnect one of the groups of wires going into the computer the drain on the battery stops. I am going to order a schematic and see if I can find what is putting the drain on the battery. If I find the answer I will let you know.

I have a similar draw issue on 98 GSX Limited

I disconnected the group of wires from the computer that leads to the tach/speedo and it made no difference. Then I disconnected the top bundle of wires at the back (stern side) of the computer and the draw stops. Any other ideas?

How long is the time out? Would I also hear a click when it times out?
