Cleaning water spots

Was told that rather than Ducky spray, white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle works well to remove water spots on your boat or PWC....tried it and it worked perfectly......local marine store advised not to use vinegar as it will strip the gelcote shine after a while. Who's right?

Well both. As long as you regularly wax, you should be ok. The vinegar would help to strip the existing wax off, and then you should reapply wax.

Gelcoats are much thicker than paint, and if you treat them with similar care they should last.

You could also try the clay bar kits available from auto parts stores. They come with a spray quick detailer that lubes the clay bar as it is rubbed on the surface.

It will shear the water spot deposits, kind of like lifting them off - but really it is shearing it to the level of the gelcoat.

Then wax with a mild polish - clay bar removes any existing wax.

Another clever mixture that I use is:

1/4 - Distilled vinegar
1/2 - Windex
1/4 - Water

I got this from some of my barefoot'n buddies on how they clean their boats, seems to work quite well.

my 2-cents.
