I am getting ready to clean the carbs on my 2000 Xp, and It would really help if I could get some help with the steps regarding what should be removed and disconnected in order to get to the carbs first of all, then remove the carbs in order to clean them.

Thank you for the help everyone! Greg

Whatever you think that, will get'n your way, i'd remove it. Gives you more room to work...good luck

It will be easier to pull the carbs once you get the pipe out of the way. Seems like more work to remove more parts - but sometimes it is more work to work AROUND parts that are in the way. Losing hardware in the hull really bites - spend more time fishing them out that actually working on the boat.

You do not have to remove the pipe to get to the carbs but it would soooo much easier if you do.

First you must remove the two little air ducts using a 10mm wrench and a 10mm socket. Pull them both out.

The tuned pipe is easy to get off except for one friggen nut on the bottom by the carbs.

To get to the bottom nut on the pipe you can buy the special tool they make or make on like I did. Take a 15mm wrench and grind the box end down where it is really flat and thin.

Put the wrench in a vise and heat about 2 inches from the box end of the wrench till it gets really red. Use another bigger wrench and bend the end up enough to the right angle you need to get to the nut.

Google search "exaust tool seadoo" and you'll see a picture of it to go by. I had to bend a straighten mine a few times before I got to the correct angle. You don't have to totally remove the nut just loosen it enough because after you take the Allen bolts out the whole pipe will slide upwards out of the notch in the pipe.

Better order an exaust gasket if you take it off though cause you'll need it.
Hope this gets ya started.

I found that D--N Nut at the bottom of the exhaust where it goes to the manifold. It is a b---H to get to.

I cannot however find the spaecial tool listed any where on the net.

Thanks, Greg

Carb clean turning into a major project!!

Thanks alot for the pic. NSWILLIN.

Think I may just order one from SBT, and I'll need the exhaaust gasket.

Any other parts I should go ahead and get that I will need for this project?

Lots of Parts and tools I didn't know I would need, but local repair shop=$65
dollars an hour +parts!!

Are most of the gas lines that need to changed accessable once I hve gotten to the carb with the exhaust off?
Thanks,

Greg

Very easy - fuel selector might be a little bit of a reach. Hardest one (other than carbs when they are still IN the boat) is the fuel baffle.

Where is the fuel baffle?

wondering where the fuel baffle is so that I can replace the fuel line.

Also is there any other tool or wrench that will work to get the bottom nut
off of the exhaust manifold???

Thanks,

Greg

That should do it, I took the whole pipe out without taking that huge hose clamp looking thing off of it. That's the only tool you'll need except for some metric allen sockets.

I changed out my fuel lines also on the same model. I bought 10ft of 1/4" fuel injection hose and 10 ft" of 5/16" hose. The 1/4 is for all the hoses that say 6mm and the 5/16 is for the the ones that say 8mm. Auto zone had it foe bout $3 a foot, Napa was crazy high at $6.50 ft. Need new clamps too.

The fuel baffle is easy to get to.

Take the four hex screws out from under the back of the seat, under the grab bar. Loosen the clamp on the yellow boot and hold it down and loosen the clamp on the black boot and push it down. Be careful with the clamp on the black boot cause it will want to slide all the way down and it's a B to get it back up. There is a bolt that hold your seat down and you can use a 17mm wrench and 17mm deepwell socket to take that off.

Open the front storage compartment and take off your gas cap. The whole seat will tilt up. Put a broom handle there to hold it up while you work. There is a big black cap on the hull under the seat that you can pop off., and wha la, there is the fuel baffle.
