clay bar safe for gel coat?

Hey everyone, so I picked up this 96xp a few weeks ago. The lower hull seems to have some oxidation on it and the upper portion is a bit dull. I have a brand new meguires clay bar kit sitting at home, waiting for it to be used up. Now as the title says, is it safe to clay bar my ski? What are some successful products you guys have used? This is my new baby, so I want to make it look good as new

Absolutely, in fact I would use something a little stronger, the gel coat on a SeaDoo is very thick you won't hurt it. I would use 3M polishing compound on the gel coat and use the claybar on the graphics.

Thanks lou, what type of polish/wax do you top it off with?

Yeah i agree with Lou, thats not enough. I use 3M marine compound. Then I just use the 3m marine wax. There still might be spots that wont cut it, on those spots, you can wet sand it.

As the other said... clay bar is good... but it's really for darker colors.

The Gel on the boat is thick and hard. I always attack a boat with a 7" rotary polisher, and 3M super duty compound.

Look at the reflection in my newest project....

Thanx Dr. And all of you for the advice. I have a rotary polish myself, thinking of going with a 3m super duty compound and topping it out with one of meguires wax.

As mentioned Shurhold which makes Buff Magic & Pro Polish is good. Use this on my boat & ski's. Almost no dust compared to 3M. Shurhold also has some good Youtube videos.

you could use a clay bar, but its more for pulling contaminants off the paint rather than for polishing. like when you wash your car with dawn to pull the wax off and the paint still feels rough like its dirty. the clay bar can pull the contaminants out of the paint without scratching it. if you want to save a bit of money, synthetic modeling clay from the art store and quick detailer for clay lube works just as well.

i'm not sure it would do a lot for your fading/oxidation issue, which would probably be better dealt with by polishing.
