So I finally got the bill 275 Ahhh. I have never got one before, the citation were given because I went the opposite flow direction of the lakes trafic. So my question is will it go on my driving record, what would be my options? Trafic school or something, request to lower amount ?.

WOW, you guys are tough out there in the West.
Must have been a big lake to have water cops.

All public lakes and waterways have either fish & game, or water enforcement.

I'm pretty sure in CA the minimum penalty is your left nut, don't worry you'll hardly know its gone.

I did a quick search with google and it appears boating citations do not go on your motor vehicle record. Some states will show a boating under the influence or reckless charges but thats it.

do they give you an option to request a hearing to contest the ticket like traffic tickets?

Yes, I have a court date this month. Is going the wrong direction consider reckless ? My citation is marked as a infraction and not misdemeanor

didnt you say in an earlier post that you were circling to pick up something you dropped? or was that someone else. if so I think you got a good chance to play it up to the judge. Be very courteous to the judge.

Yea, circling to get a hat, if I contest the ticket and i loss I don't think the judge will allow the fine to be lowered?

lots of time in traffic court if you show up and have a good story the judge will at least lower the fine. plus if the "cop" don't show up you automatically win.

30 years ago, on friday night I got a ticket for sliding thru a red light to make a right turn, and expired registration, and then saturday afternoon a speeding ticket for 92mph (in a 55) which was an automatic 5 points and drivers school. First 2 tickets were tossed out when the cop didn't show for the hearing (I just had to show the judge I had a current registration). The speeding ticket I had a really good story, judge reduced the ticket to 60mph and no points.

A friend got pulled over for speeding a couple nights ago, cop walked up to the car and asked why he was going so fast. My buddy is pretty ballsy and said to the cop "cause I just left your wife". Luckily the cop had a good sense of humor, he laughed and said "just get out of here"

Jake,

That's a good one. One of the best I've heard, supposed to be true, a cop pulls over a young driver for speeding, the cop remarks "I've been waiting for you all day", the kid says, "well I got here as fast as I could", the cop laughed so hard he forgot about issuing the citation.

You must have showed enough tit to get out of that one!!!

As you may know... I lived in SoCal most of my young life... and Paris was an OK lake... and I normally went there for a quick "Day" trip. Unless you got a ranger on a bad day... you had to do something to get his attention.

My advice is to not fight it. If you loose (and you probably will) you will pay your fine, plus court costs. That could run your total fine up to $700. There is a very slim chance that the Judge will accept your answer that you were just getting a hat... but most likely he will say... you should have gone around the island.

Just my 2 cents.

Im with Tony, its much better to usually just pay it and be done. It doesnt go on your driving record. With the current economy in CA, i dont see them lowering it to anything. They want $$$$$

I dunno specifically about CA, but here in KY on the citation it has a box marked whether or not it is payable or court is mandatory. You should be able to just pay it. Im sure there is somewhere you can call and ask.

If i pay it do i still need to apear in court ?

If you:

1) Made a court appointment
2) did not pay the fine on the last date.

Then yes.

In CA... the fines normally are called "Bail" and have a date. If you do not pay by the date on the ticket... yes... you must go to court since the system automatically scheduls the court time. If you don't pay, and you don't want to go to court... you can call the county clerk and enter a plea. If you want to say anything other than "Guilty"... then you must appear on your court date.

Last thing... you better bring money if you go to court. If you don't want to be put in the holding tank... you have to pay the fine before you leave.

I've never been in trouble myself... but I've been subpoenaed as a witness a few times in my life... so I've gotten to watch the system work. (it was actually kind of interesting)

So I guess this means on a job application when they ask I you have ever been convicted of a crime? You can say hmmmmm CONVICTED? ..........no
