so last year i messed up changing my oil and had about 2 quarts too much! opps... well it blew oil every where and check engine light came on... so i sucked the oil out and got it too the right level. now this year the first time out if i hit a wave or turn the boat too hard the engine light comes on and the boat goes into a limp mode. ????..... is it that sensor on top of the motor by the breather hose? sorry, its a 2006 seadoo challenger 180 4tec.

Make sure your air filter is clean. It could be saturated in oil (mine was when the same thing occured with putting in too much oil!).

yeah.... there isnt an air filter on the boat... it just goes to that box.... and there isnt a filter in it! lol.... kind of weird why they did that... been thinking of getting rid of the box and putting a filter on it... but that def not the problem. i was just wondering if there is a sensor on this motor that will do that if oil comes up out of the breather.... there is a connection and some kind of sensor right there in that area... so im thinking it may be bad???

Low fuel?

Have see. It where the fuel is low enough that it trips the sensor on waves and turns which will put it in limp mode to preserve fuel.

No air filter? Empty box? Are you sure it's not just missing? WEIRD!!

Low fuel limp mode to preserve fuel? Are you sure? This is an AWESOME feature, but it would be nice to be able to tell the difference if it is a real problem or just low fuel!

My Polaris skis had the low fuel feature and dropped the ski to just over planing speed.

I am pretty sure I read my Seadoo's have it as well.

If the float or sensor is bad it would give the same result no matter how much fuel you have as it would THINK it is low on fuel.

I'll look in my manual to see if I did read it correctly.

no... full tank... it never gets below half tank.... and yeah... its kind of weird about the filter... i asked the dealer and looked up the part numbers on rivias site... and its just and empty box with baffels in it.... and i think it def has to do with the oil... cause this never happened till i over filled it... then after i took some oil out... its been happening ever since... and yesterday i was riding and it did it 4 times... 2 times i was just crusing at 6000 with no waves or turning....???

i see what your saying about the sensor....??? but that would be such a weird coincidence.... but im sure if it were to happen... it would do it to me! lol... do you think it would make the gauge to read empty though? cause that should be the same type thats in a car... and its just a float with a ground?.... hmmmm.... and were would that sensor be...lol i can see my self starting to replace random sensors! lol... damn it!

I would start with changing the spark plugs for the new ones if you didn't do so yet for this season. They cause the check engine light to go on.

yes sir.... i have already done that.... the motor runs great... there is no hesatation or sputtering.... just out of the blue... it beeps, light, then motor goes to limp????.....

it doesnt matter... i dont need to disconnect the bat for it to rest... but yes i have,,, and i have changed the plugs before... and after... this started at the end of last summer... and its still doing it this season...

sooooo.... the dealer pulled the codes... and they say its the knock sensor... the guy said they norm dont go bad... its prob my gas??? what do you guys think? im going to suck it all out... prob put it in one of my cars... lol. and ad some seafoam and new gas... just seems odd cause i told them that its been going on since the end of last summer.... and now this year.... but i top off evertime i go out... and i never go under a half tank... always use premium...???? so do you guys think im that lucky and all i have to do is the fuel???
