Just got home after checking out a used 2007 Challenger 180SE with waketower and Bimini. The owner "claimed" 16 hours on the boat and the asking price was $16,000.

There is no way this boat had only 16 hours. It has bunches of gelcoat gouges and dock rash. Decals messed up and the hull has tons of beaching evidence. It wasn't even something I would want to make an offer on. Nasty is a nice way of saying it.

It was the gold decal package with the gold seats. I did like the colors and the wake tower was great....other than that it was trashed.

I've decided I'm buying new and pay the price...I'm just too anal.

If anyone finds a new 2008 Challenger 180SE with tower and bimini for under 20 large please let me know.

Craig

Couldnt

Jim,

I wouldnt even ask. I knew I wasnt interested in that boat and wouldnt ask for a joy-ride of sort. Wouldnt want to wast the owners time and gas.

Craig

Did you at least go out on the water in it for impression??:)

It's amazing how some people take care of their things.

Being a general mechanic in the automotive field I see all sorts of cars that within one or two years old are absolutely trashed........ every panel scraped and dented, remains from every fast food meal they have had since they purchased the car smeared into the upholstery, and maybe getting around to doing every third or fourth oil change.........:ack: then they have the nerve to complain about "what a piece of junk" their car is.. Like it is the manufactures fault, simply because they are too lazy to take care of it.

Both my boat and truck look like they just rolled out of the showroom. I can't even tie the Utopia up to a dock and walk away....... I make my wife stand there and keep it from touching.

Its hard to believe a guy would leave the boat in that condition and have it for sale. I mean a few hours of elbow grease and some new stickers ($140) and his boat would be a completely different beast. Agreed though that if he couldn't even do that then he probably didn't take good care of it at all. Scares you to wonder what other stupid or careless stuff he did with the boat that you don't even know about :( Beaching it is a big no no in my book (I know some people do it here, just not worth the risk to me).

With regards to the craigslist boat listed above, its not that far from me. If you get serious about it let me know and I can probably make a trip out there and check it out for ya.

Thanks Robert

Robert,

Thank you for that offer. Like you said, with the condition of the hull with all the gouges, scratches and scuffs its only the start. He even admitted it hasnt had the 10 hour service yet. He claims the boat has 16 hours(but I think its alot more than that) but I didnt even wanna bother seeing what the digital display said cause I just wasn't interested.

I've decided I'm going new and will wait on what I feel is a fair price. I want the wake tower with Bimini and wont pay $26,000 that's for sure!!

Saturday

Jim, First of all Zach is a Marine in which case indicates he has integrity. Second of all he paid a deposit of $500 and I'm certain he wont walk away from that and third and most important he's getting an awesome boat at an awesome price. Now that I'm actually looked around I've learned just how good of a price it is. And he wont ever have to service a supercharger......Bitter? me????? :willy_nilly::banghead:

Craig

Or maybe he won't?!.....:reddevil::reddevil::reddevil:

I am probably with you on that thought!

I didn't think he was going to pass....especially with what you had mentioned. It was more of wishful thinking... Did you see that link to the Utopia on jetboatforum?

I told ya you would regret it...... I was talking to a friend at the cattage and he was waxing his 33ft Doral lol and was thinking he might sell it and just drive the new lund boat he bought, I told him wait till its in the water befor you do something stupid.... Have you drivin a 180 yet???

Utopia

Jim,

The motive to do this was to get a boat that would fit in the garage and also something with a walk-through transom in addition...a wake tower. C-180 fits the bill. Only problem is I have to become a supercharger expert :-(

You will be fine!

Craig,

You are very mechanically inclined. Just get through the learning curve and it will be fine. The boat does fit your bill...I really do like the way it is shaped. Not a big fan of the instrument cluster though..:)

Cluster

Jim,

I'm split on the digital cluster. I like the digital instrumentation but you can tell its lifted right off one of their PWCs. Obviously this saves them a ton of money but I think they could have designed a larger one to scale for boats and used it across the entire boat line. I dont know, thats just me. I like it none-the-less.

I'd love to hear from someone who has been aboard a 215hp and a 255hp boat. The 2009s come both ways and wondering if the 215 is the way to go. I suspect the 255 will be a gas hog.
