Check getting correct Mixture ?

Hi Guys

These jetski's that i bought sat up for 2 years and i wanted to check and see ( even tho they running good it seems ) if they are getting the correct amount of 2 cycle oil from tank. They both smoked a lot when 1st Cranked but it cleared up and i see almost no smoke now. Sometimes when idled for a while i see a little. Am i worrying to much about this or is there a way to check if it is getting Correct Mixture ?. Just want to be sure i dont have a major issue because i didnt check something that would have been simple to Prevent.

we will be riding for the 1st time ever ( never been on a jetski myself hehe ) this weekend and i am sure they will get a lot of riding time and i would rather prevent any problems from arising if i can. sorry to bother with such a small issue but want to be sure. hope this is in right area hehe

Wouldn't be small issue, if cylinder melted, now would it....Hey oldmanactingyoung....
I've read, you can SHARPIE PEN the resivoir tank, then check level after a bit, or to plug check, if whitish...LEAN, you can always bring a bottle of premix with you, "16oz to 5gal.=40/1". Just in case....

There ya go...a simple solution ill sharpie the res. to see if tank lowering level after a fuel tank full...that was my main concern is that oil making it ok to mixture...thanks:cheers:

Hey Pamela....you mark the resivoir tank w/ a pen, then while or the end of day riding, recheck your marking, mak'n sure your ski is the same lever as before, and see if new lever is lower....walla, pump is work'n...giv'n you dont have oil leak

If the pump isn't working...it could be too late!

Timmy, the only problem with your theory is if the pump isn't pumping any oil or it is pumping less than is required...it will seize the engine in about...5 to 30 minutes. Your idea is a good if your looking for a consumption amount in a day's riding.

Ahhh There ya go my main concern was if pump was working to insure that i dont go out and seize up a motor...the sharpie idea was good but as you said it will only tell me approx what i am burning a tank ( which in long rin will tell me what mixture i am at with a little math hehe ) i was hoping for a easy way to check to insure that it is getting oil and the correct amount...

thanks Karl

In the manual is a test to see if the oil pump is pumping the correct amount of oil. It tells you the rate and the rpm set at a given time frame. It isn't the most accurate but it might work if you can get the oil pump to turn at that correct rpm. Give it a look see in the manual. I hope it helps you figure out the flow rate.

Karl...you mention my idea is good on consuption, but not if pump is work'n/not work'n,...so, you follow manual, not the best idea for testing, but if its not work'n, maybe to late for motor to find out?
Sounds to me, ur damn if you do, damn if you dont.....or i'm I miss'n the picture. "blockoff plate"???

The Oil injector unit is the best way to go as seadoo uses a variable rate oil injector. It uses oil as the engine rpm's increase. The test in the manual is about the only way to determine if the pump is working at the rate it should. Pre-mix uses more oil which means its more expensive.

Karl

Premix is not cheap there is a price to pay for asurance that your engine will allways be geting oil. Replacing plugs once a year, useing up to 2 times as much oil as oil enjected. Some people complain of carbon build up I have very rarely had this issue with 2 cycle engines but even so it is a easy fix.
