First ride after de-winterization and all is fine for bout 30 minutes then the Starbord Yellow Check Engine light goes on and stays on with the LOUD constant BEEP!, I pull the key off and it clears? no clogs in the propulsion, both props aren't cavitating or jammed up...it did it 4 more times randomly today

After searchin the forums the CANDOO system is mentioned to read codes but I cant drop $2k+ on a code reader

Any thoughts? insight into this...never had this problem Ever for 6 yrs of running and havent changed a thing, just put fresh gas in and ran it-Oil level looks a tad high on both dipsticks though?

Thx in advance

guess thats the only way to identify what is goin on...does the ECU keep codes stored so I can look up last error?

Candoo was about $350 and you can use it all the time, make keys and all instead of paying the dealer. It pays for itself with 3-4 deal trips. Anyways without knowing the code it hard to tell, did that engine drop in rpms- to 5,000? Mine does the same warning and all and it was the oil ops, osps codes But after more trouble shooting those were fine. I am still fighting with it- seems to have pressure that wont release in the valve cover.

No drop in RPM just light and beep?

There was ALOT of debri in the Chesapeak bay yesterday and Im wondering if maybe the greenwater to the exhaust manifold is restricted. Is where does the exhuast get its inlet for cooling water? is it pumped or fed thru movement thru the water?
Thx

You mentioned that the oil level was a bit high, how high? The oil for 4-tecs should be right in the middle of the bends on the dip stick. If too high suck some out and get it right, then take the boat out for a test. If the oil is too high it can cause running problems and even build up of oil pressure which can set off alarms.

IF it was cooling you would have a temp light Or just the exhaust was restricted, Anything melted? It gets the cooling water for the exhaust thru the pump and the engine is closed look and uses coolant.

Hmmmm. I popped the back even while it was idling and didnt see anything spraying, felt the cooling cans off each engine , both seemed about the same temp not too hot. Nothing melted.

I gotta get a Candoo, do you guys recommend the handheld or the laptop version?

OK got the Candoo and a laptop, goin to trip down to the marina to grab the codes..any insight as to where the Candoo connector is located? Im reading its down near the Battery and once connected I need to start or bump each engine to get the pc to grab a code dump? Correct?

Thx

No need to start the engine, just place the key on the dess post with the battery on. Connect to one port and run the scan, then I remove the key and do the same for the other engine. The connector will have a cap on it and will look like the pic. If you have 2 engines you should have 2. Mine are located near each fuse box for each engine. Don't forget to replace the cap when you are done.

DESS key goes on the boat. That is what turns on the computer on the engine. The post on the candoo is really only for making a new key I think. The other dess post attachment is for older 2 strokes that don't have a diagnostic port.

Just to clarify, are you saying that if the engine is overheating you get the beep and the temp light and if it's just the water cooled exhaust overheating you only get a beep?

As far as I know engine temp or exhaust temp you would get the Temp Light. Check engine light usually is anything but overheating.

As Im running thru the water for about 20 minutes about 5K RPM, the right ENGINE CHECK LIGHT (Yellow) lights up and the BEEP goes on. Nothing changes RPM wise or shut down.
I shut the engine down when this happens and restart it, it clears everything and starts up no problem.

I just ran down to the Marina and read the Codes and Im getting faulty temp sensor on Starbord Engine....so is the Candoo smart enough to know if its getting too hot or its OK temp and just sensor failed?

Yes you should be able to read the high and low engine and exhaust temps on the CanDoo.

you can see the running temps for the engine and exhaust on the candoo (i ran on the water while watching the candoo on a laptop).
the candoo site has a great forum for any question about the candoo and faults.
they answer very quickly, read other user question or search the fault codes...
