I just picked up two 1996 GTX’s and one of them had a drained battery, so I took it home and plugged it up to the charger with the lanyard on and with the batteries connected. I did not read enough before hand. Now I know better. Well since then, I can not get it to start. I have fuel and spark, but maybe not the right amount possibly due to a computer issue? Any thoughts on what to check? Your help is much appreciated.

attach lanyard and nothing until I wiggle it

I have two lanyards for two bikes and they both do the same thing when I connect it to one of the ski i.e. does not get power or beeps, so I am thinking it is the switch. What do you think? They are $100, so I did not want to spend it unless needed? Are the lanyard’s programmed for each ski? The guy I recently bought them from said he had them programmed to work on either. Does that mean that there is a chip in the lanyard? If I buy a new one, what is the procedure to get them to synchronize?

I am having a guy come out this evening to take a look. We will see what he says. He seems to be leaning to changing out the gas line on the bike that won't start. I'll report back later.

Ok. Johnny Jetski came by and for the jet ski that would not start we cleaned out the carbs and it started right up. It had black gunk throughout even past the filters. We then repleaced the fuel lines right at the carbs, but not the rest of the fuel line. He said the rest of the line does not gunk up like the part right at the carbs. Is this true? It seems that it is all the same stuff.

Regarding the other bike, the rattling in the propeller was deemed "normal," but he said the computer module was going out and that was why I was not getting beeps sometimes and sometimes it would not turn over. He said a new one was $700, but he also said they could be rebuilt. If so, where can I get the computer rebuilt and for how much?

Okay skis not bikes.

I hope to try them out this weekend, but I am a little scared of the one with computer issues.

I would start by cleaning the Post on the safety lanyard. It is beeping and saying it isn't connecting to the Mpem, (Multi Purpose Electronic Module) It needs to beep 2 times to let you know it is ready to start. Clean the post and cap with soapy water. Don't use any grease of lubricant on it as it needs a clean connection to make contact. Connect the lanyard to see if it is making a connection. 2 beeps and it's ready to fire up. Some times the beeper is bad. Feel it for a vibration as it just might not be beeping. If that is the case it can be replaced from Radio Shack for less than $15.00.

For the carbs, if you have gunk... you have gunk, clean the carbs.

(I hope this helps on your wheel-less bikes also know as Pwc's)

When I take them out this weekend, I will get a better idea of what the bike Mpem issues is doing. Yesterday it did not beep at all, but started. The other day it would beep, but would not start. It is a little scary when taking it out on the water. Any recommendations for an inline on/off switch for the batteries? I certainly want a marine model, and will try to drive by a marine shop over the weekend.

Any comments about changing out the rest of the fuel lines? Is it needed?

autozone 1/4 inch black automotive fuel line. the grey lines have silicone linings. they don't like ethanol. you can't get gas that doesn't have ethanol in it. the ethanol dissolves the fuel line and it re-deposits wherever it wants.

Fuel hose deterioration is highest at the carbs because of the proximity to the heat of the engine along with the vibration and in particular exposure to oxygen.

These are also the shortest sections of hose which means more exposed area on the tips to the air compared to the rest of the length of hose.

And please check the lanyard post before throwing away a potentially good MPEM.

Not trying to thread jack but my 97 GTX does not Beep... But it does START EVERY TIME??
ideas? I will do a search to see what i find.

OK, I just got back from the lake, and both bikes ran, but I still have the electrical issue with the one. I will start a new post to disscuss.
