Hi,
I am about to tackle the task of changing the batteries in my 2 '97 GTX. I thought I would post and see if anyone who has done this before had any suggestions of what to do, or what not to do before I begin. It looks like the accessibility of the battery leaves a bit to be desired. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Positive last....

Start by removing the negative first, then the positive ....hook up in the reverse order. If your cables are long enough, or can be stretched up by undoing a couple clips, it may be easier to work with the connections with the battery moved to an accessible area of the ski.....

I had to take the seat bracket off in order to gain easier access to the battery in a '99 GTX RFI. I might have been able to do it with the bracket installed, but it was much easier without it. :)

97 GTX is the same way. 4 10mm bolts on the big plastic piece between front and rear seat halves. pull top piece off, and swing lower piece forward outta the way. don't cut the tie-wraps on air vent hoses. lots easier. his GTX is same hull as my GTI.

I don't understand my 97 GTX has a rubber strap holding down the battery - take that off - reach down and pull it out thru the rear back seat opening.

yeah, but it is a pain to reach in and unbolt the batt terminals. for the 30 seconds work of moving the seat mount, life is much easier. plus, he started a post asking how. implying he wasn't as mech inclined as some of us.

I agree, removing the mount makes things go a lot more smoothly. Heck, the service manual for my boat even lists removing the mount as a step for removing the battery.
