In a few days I will be helping a guy remove one of his motors on a 99 Challenger. He purchased this boat from a dealer but never started it for him stating it cant run out of water. Long story short he got to the lake and one motor wont run. We did a compression test and it was 90, 130. We will be rebuilding the carbs on both and changing oil lines as well. My question is though, I noticed the fuel pumps on these are external from the carbs.....Is there a certain rebuild kit I need for the pumps?

Before I would assume any "Rebuild" needs done... simply open them up, and look inside. If the parts are good... then there's no reason to replace anything.

I can't tell you how many carbs I've "Rebuilt" and not put a sing part in them. The OEM mikuni parts are tough... and generally only have issues after neglect and/or abuse.

I agree and do the same on my skis, I am just going off what what he wants done. I will take a look though and check!

You can't rebuild the jet boat fuel pumps. Non serviceable. Several guys switched to a hexagon shaped mikuni high flow pump. You will need to seal off one of the outlets. There's a few threads on here with pics. Jhjesse did it and posted pics.

The OEM pumps they don't sell any more. You just get a universal mikuni pump that is more volume or the same and you JB weld the other port/ports you don't need. I did that on my 1800 Sportster. At least with the universal mikunis you can rebuild them. On the boats the only gray tempo line is the pulse line so the pumps might have the green goo. Just remember if you replace the lines in the boat you need coast guard approved ones. I replaced my pumps since there was some green goo and they were 15 years old at the time. For $40 a piece and $5 for JB Weld you can't go wrong. I even retro fitted them to the old bracket. I did add extra external fuel filters also on my boat. I like my gas super clean..

You can still get the OEM pumps, they're just more expensive. The last time I checked at one of the dealers I buy parts from they had 5 of them. It's ALMOST the same pump that skidoo uses on their carb sleds. I think the outlet it bent at a different angle, but other than that it's identical.

I will say for 98 and later carb boats Rotax powered. The 97 and down is a different story.

I know they stopped make them for 717's. I tried 3 large seadoo parts places online and can't order them anymore. I am sure whatever dealers have left is it the, but I never thought of looking at the ski-doo models. Still you can get 2 for the price of one OEM pump that you rebuild later on.
