Challenger drive problem

Hello everyone and thanks for the add. I have a somewhat speculative question for the group. I took a look at a 1997 Challenger with a single 787 engine for sale. The guy has owned it for 15 years and it’s in great shape. He had some problems early in the season which resulted in a top overhaul, a pump overhaul, a wear ring replacement seals, boot and a few other items (receipts available).

It ran well for most of the season now he says it makes a loud noise (vibrates?) and hardly moves. He doesn’t have the financial resources to have it repaired.

I don’t know much about these craft but I’m guessing that there is some issues with the coupling of the drive shaft. I pretty handy but before I buy into it I want to get some sense of what the problem might be.

I’d appreciate the groups thoughts.

Thanks, Paul

First thing I would do is check the intake grate for seaweed or other debris blocking it. If nothing pull jet pump and inspect wear ring and driveshaft
