I recently acquired a 1996 challenger ( single engine) guy said it has no spark. I was able to trade for it for a few hundred buck. Previous owner purchased replaced mpem and still no joy.

After many hours diagnosing and no joy here’s the issue

I’m not getting voltage on the white/black wire from the Dess. I read on another post that you should have 12v out of the mpem black and yellow. I’m getting less than 5. I’ve tried a second mpem by buddy had ( aftermarket) that worked in his ski but still no joy.

The dash lights up for 30 seconds. I get no beeps and pressing the start button does nothing. Does anyone know the voltage outputs on the wires from the mpem ?

Unfortunately... I've never tested the voltage to the lanyard post. But, if you swapped MPEM's... and still don't see anything... I would say you have an issue with the wires going up to the helm. Also... the chip in the lanyard won't be a 12v device. SO... it's probably low voltage, and very low current.

Last thing... the beepers go bad, so it probably needs replaced. I would look at that, as it may be trying to beep an error message, and give you a clue as to what the problem may be.

The buzzer was bad. Rigged up a light bulb instead. I’ve checked continuity on each wire from the helm to the epem. All are good with low resistance, I am getting about 5v coming from the black/yellow with the lanyard off. With it on it drops to almost zero. Is there suppose to be voltage on the white/grey?
