Just purchased a 2010 challenger 180se. Guy said it was perfect. Lol. Should have known. Rebuilding the pump and got reading about the carbon seal. Is there a way to tell it needs one? It seems like a lot of space between the shaft and seal. Just trying to have this thing ready for next season and while I have it apart is there anything I should be looking at? The SC has roughly 40 hrs but a few years since new. Any help appreciated.

There is supposed to be space between the shaft and the seal, the business part is the face of the seal and the stainless steel support ring, if the surfaces are scarred or worn it will leak. If they are smooth and even then just put it back together.

Okay, thanks.
