Challenger 1800 left engine lacks acceleration

I have a 1997 Challenger and she has ran fine all summer. However when I hit the water this past weekend, my left engine would die when I tried to accelerate. It started right up and ran fine at idle speed but died as soon as I touched the throttle. I stooped the boat and replaced both plugs on that engine, re-fired and I was able to accelerate to about 3000rmp before it would die again. If I quickly back off on the throttle, the engine will bogg down but remain running. Today I removed the fuel filters, cleaned them with the compressor, and put them back on. however, this time I put the left one on the right engine and vice-versa. Still the same problem with left engine. If i cruise at idle for a few seconds before jumping on the throttle, she will reach close to 7000 rpm but then die again unless I quickly back off the throttle. I have read several threads and it sounds like either a carb issue or a rave valve problem. Perhaps the fuel accelerator inside the carb is shot??? Carbs have never been rebuilt and not sure if/when the rave valves have been cleaned. Any thoughts are appreciated.

P.S. If I pull the choke out part way as the left engine wants to stall, it will pick bsck up for a second and then stall out again. I guess this means it is a fuel issue rather than an ignition or stator issue?

Yep... you have fuel issues.

Look for an air leak, in the feed, and in the fuel select valve in that side. Then clean the carbs.

Yep... sure enough, the fuel selector valve was clogged!!! Unclamped the hoses, blew it out with the air compressor, and put it back on. Runnin like a champ now! Thanks for the input!!!

I wouldn`t hesitate on doing what Dr Honda suggested... if you know those carbs have never been apart, get those rebuilt asap... even tho the boat appears to run well, it is just a matter of when not if they will give you trouble...
also check the fuel lines. and Ditto on the Raves... good luck!
