Quick history..

Bought a project 1999 challenger 1800. Twin 787. Both engines 150psi all cylinders. Bought new carbs for both engines, cleaned new gas, installed new wear rings.. When i turn the engines on both idle at 3k rpms.

Any help would be great!! Im tired of dumping money and time on this thing :(

Is that when it is out of the water on a trailer, or actually in the water? 3,000 RPM is about right when there is no water running through the jet pumps.

Really? well this is when its on the trailer.. out of the water. i replaced the wear rings on it a few days ago.. prior to doing that i took the boat out and got it up to 12mph. reverse wasnt working either. after i installed the wear rings i took it to the lake again but reverse wasnt working still and it started to rain so i didnt get a chance to test the new wear rings.. if 3k rpms out of water is normal then i will take it to the lake tomorrow.

Yes, the pressure from the water should drop the RPM about half of what it is when out of the water. Let us know how it goes. If there is enough water in your lakes to test it. Getting some rain here now, but the lakes around me are very low.

really? i live out in ocoee.. stark lake is fine, lake apopka was actually a little low and the boat ramp was full of debris.

The lake across the street from us, Lake Gibson, is low. The wife and I took the Challenger to the Chain of Lakes in Winter Haven last week and they are about 3' low. The Lake Shipp ramp is almost in useable. Most of the channels would be unpassable if you had a lower unit. I don't think we will go back there until the level comes up some. No telling when that will be.

yea water levels are def down... i almost got stuck at the dock just now.

as for the boat.. i took it out just now and still nothing. gets up to about 12mph. rpms on both engines top out at about 4k. idles at 1200 rpms in water and 3k outside of the water. i installed new carbs and new wear rings on both sides.

even with the new wear rings (my old ones were completely destroyed) i couldnt get it to go faster than 12mph

Are you free in the early afternoon tomorrow? I will be finishing up with an appointment in Sanford by noon and heading back through Orlando when I am finished. I could take a look at it with you.
