Hi guys new to the forum. My names Nate. I’ve got a 1998 Challenger 1800 with 787’s in it. The port motor is hard starting but runs. I did a compression test at the end of last year and found 175psi on 3 and 55psi on the port motor rear cylinder. My brother and I just got around to pulling the top of the motor apart yesterday. I’ll attach pictures. We found the piston has a large indent in it where it looks like it burned up in the center? And a small piece of it missing where the ring is visible along with it worn away on the intake/carb side a little bit. The other piston looks pretty good to me. So here I am wondering if we need to buy a reman engine or if we can just replace the piston and rings? I’m mechanically inclined been working on cars for 15 years but this is my first tear down on a two stroke Period the jog and cylinder walls seem to be in very good shape Period how would I know if I needed the block rebuilt? Where would I look for that piece of piston? As I said the engine still turns over and actually ran!? So we were thinking about just doing a top and rebuild unless someone has some insight they can give me. Thanks in advance for your time and thanks for excepting me into the forum.
