Challenger 180 radio question

Guys,

I'm going on a trip this coming weekend and will hopefully bring home a slightly used 2008 Challenger 180. Its not the SE model so it does not have the remote stereo control at the helm. I will want to add this.

Can anyone tell me which model stereo comes standard in the regular 180 in 2008? If its the same radio thats in the SE I assume I can just buy the wired remote and install on the dash as there is a flat landing pad for it already.

Also, has anyone installed a second pair of speaker in the bow? There are two flat areas perfectly suited for speakers. I assume the SE has speakers there??

Not sure what radio the 08 comes with but if its the clarion like the 06's, I've got a remote ud make you a helluva deal on.

My 08 Challenger 180 came with a Jensen radio with the SE remote. But the radio broke the second time I had it out. Replaced it with the same model. Dont remember what it was. But its definelty a Jensen standard radio in the 08.

thats what i thought. not sure why they use lower end audio equipment on these models. even the clarion head unit that cam with mine was not the top of the line clarion. and the only two 6 1/2's it came with? Junk! so i bought a higher end clarion because it had to be marine and i installed the sirius on it and changed out the wired remote and added another to the swim platform. i changed the factory 6.5's to polk component 6.5's, and added a set of 6x9's (also polks). and i also have two polk 6.5's on my tower too. system is titts now.
if i was ever gona buid a system i deffinatly wouldnt use a jensen. im not saying their equipment today is crap, but when i was younger those were the units displayed right next to the audiovox's with the turny knobs at meijers (its a big department grocery store in the north- like walmart). sorry if i hijacked this thread.

I'm with you. I mean, how much more would it have cost if(BRP) they used a name brand such as Sony or Kenwood? Both offer good marine products and certainly would have added some quality to the boat.

If mine has the Jensen I'll give it a try. if the sound is fair I'll keep it and upgrade speakers no matter what. If it looks like garbage I'll simply replace the head unit with a unit I know will provide good performance. They dont cost that much.

This is the stereo that comes with the 08 Challenger 180: JENSEN AUDIO MSR3007 Satellite-Ready CD Stereo.

It's ok but you definetely want to add additional speakers. I'm leaning on the two on the bow since it would be much easier when I fold the tower. Not to mention when people are up front I won't have to blast the stereo for them to hear and I can still talk to other people on the boat without having to yell. I bought a ipod cable which works great but it won't charge the iPhone when it's connected.

If your gonna add additional speakers I would try really hard to fit some 6x9s. Espesialy if you don't plan to have a sub. 6.5s are great for mids and highs but suck for bass. I mounted mine on the sides of the walkthrough. They are the best speakers I have in the boat.

1) Do the two 6 x 9's facing each other cancel each other out??

2) Are there 6" round ones somewhere behind the drivers seat? If so could you have installed the 6 x 9's there??

3) B****in seats....did that come that way?

HA! no the seats did not come that way. cannot stand the color blue! the 6.s's behind the seats cant be changed to 6x9s because the hull is molded for 6.5's. so i put a set of components there. ill see if i got a pic.

I am almost positive the se and non se come with the same radio. If you are going to install a remote on the dash don't install the one Sea doo installs. For a little bit more you can get the Jension remote that has a display screen. Believe me its really annoying using the one that comes with the boat because you never know what's going on without the screen. Basically the only thing I use it for is pause. Other than that I seem to consistantly screw up whatever it is I want to do and someone has to go to the head unit. I'll be installing the displayed one soon. Its a little larger than the non display but others have installed and it still fits.

Oh ya, Jenson also sells an actual remote (like tv remote) its waterproof and works something like 20 ft way. Would be great to have when your swimming behind the boat etc.

Both are on my list of upgrades :hurray:

I used an Alpine amp and I highly recommend them. They make awesome stuff. Expensive but you get what you pay for.

The stock Jensen radio and SE remote have an aux in, but with the remote I want to skip tracks from the remote. Is there an ipod control cable available- does anyone know?
