Carrier seal replacement

Hey guys! Noticed that the thru hull carrier seal bearings seem to make some unhealthy sounds so better to replace it, might be original. Few questions came to my mind. Am I able to pull the driveshaft backwards by removing jet pump. I think I read somewhere that driveshaft would only come through the carrier assy if I pull it to the engine's direction. Would be easier to pull it backwards if possible I think? Also when i get the old one off the hull do I have to glue the new one to the hull somehow to make it waterproof?

The boats still in winter storage so I haven't got to checking it out in real life. Shop manual wasn't too specific on the seal carrier repairing. I already have ordered seal carrier assembly with bearings and lip seals, rubber protection hose , driveshaft bumpers, pto rubber boot and neoprene seal between pump and hull.
 
Rest of the parts arrived and I'm good to go. Still would need opinions on the questions.

Will the driveshaft come out of the boat from the aft once I take off jetpump?
Do I need some kind of epoxy glue to make the carrier assy waterproof?
 
I just replaced the bearings & seals on my carrier assemblies (removed the jets for access). From your Explorer parts break down it appears the same as my Speedster. I damaged one bearing while removing a seal - but they looked like the original (worn) bearings anyway so I didn't feel bad. I would rather replace the bearings then the driveshaft ($$$$). I used silicone on the hose connections of the carrier just to be safe. I replaced the neoprene seals and used Loctite Instant Gasket part #40479 to seal the jets to the hull.
 
Thanks for info! I'm getting confused here, looking at the pics. I've been in impression that the carrier seal is the part that's connected to hull, but seems that the part that contacts hull is the protective hose. Am I correct? Sorry for these beginner questions but the boats still in storage and can't have a real look at it. I can't remember the configuration of the parts down there, just been greasing it often :)
I've done the jetpump repairing before and it was fairly easy. Driveshaft splines were in good condition in both ends. I'm gonna trust the neoprene seal cause i think it's easier to get the pump off the next time around.
 
Maybe we're not comparing apples to apples - you said you're having a bearing noise but then you said your splines are good. Maybe your Explorer is not like my Speedster output??? I don't know if I'd trust a used neoprene seal on it's own.

I meant I ordered 5 new neoprene seals, 4 for future use :)

I can't link the brp parts book directly but the bad bearing sound seems to originate from part #9. I ordered pre assembled carrier seal with bearing and lip seals :) I'm not going to leave any old parts there. So when you pulled the pump off were you able to pull the driveshaft out also?
 
Yes, the driveshafts came out with the pumps. This is the link to your parts assembly that I referenced;

The bearing itself, is a caged (high rpm) roller bearing that I was able to find aftermarket for $10 each. I also ordered the OEM bearings which I just received ($20 each) - they appear identical. If this bearing is dry/making noise (no real load on this assembly) - it is possible the driveshaft surface may be damaged. If so, you may have other bearing options rather then replacing a driveshaft (The seal surface is what's critical - in my opinion).
 
Today finally got the job done. Most time consuming part was to get jet pump oil changed and the pump out of the hull. The silicone in bailer pickup tubes did hold the pump in fairly tight. Glad I used neoprene seal instead of silicone to seal the pump to hull. :)
Driveshaft splines were in good condition but the bearing in the seal carrier was very worn out. Boat worked like a charm all the five minutes I was out on the sea. Damn cold ride :D Now just waiting for the summer weather here.
