I am rebuilding the carburator and wanted to know what is the most omportant thing to remeber when doing this. And do you need to use gasket sealer or anything like that.

Tho I haven't done this yet, I'm waiting until winter there is a great write up about rebuilding the carbs and I think will answer all your questions. Also just make sure you have downloaded the shop manuals for you ski and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps

Gaskets......

Never use any type sealer on the carb gaskets.........the one most important thing in rebuilding the carb is to make sure, all gasket surfaces are clean and dry.

A carb is set up to remove and take apart more than once, using the same gaskets. If you use some kind of sealer, you'll only use them once. A carb also has a lot of internal porting.......any sealant in the ports, and your not going to have a clean running carb.....

When I rebuild a carb, I remove all the parts except the jets. Then, I use the little red hose that comes on a can of CRC or Carb cleaner. Brake parts cleaner is cheaper and works well too. Then, I stick that tube in the holes (internal porting) of the carb, give it a tote on the spray nozzle. Look for the spary to exit from a different area of the carb. Do this to all holes, to make sure they are clean. Open your low speed screw about 4 turns, to make sure you clean any trash that has gotten to the seat. Open the high speed screw about 1/2 turn, do the same.........

Dry everything out, follow the instructions in the Mikuni SHop manual or go to my thread in "Snipes Korner" and you'll find a 3 page write up on carbs.....
I think I have a link at the bottom of my signature to "snipes Korner"....
Good luck, let us know how you do......

about the only thing i would add to that is to use loctite on some of the bolts as shown in the shop manual

NO loctite.....

I don't use loctite, but if you going to make the fix, then not mess with it for a few years, then yes, use locktite.

I remove my carbs once or twice a season. I use antiseize on my bolts to keep them from freezing from that dreadfull aluminum oxide. I usually go through them often.

Once a season, I break down my exhaust, tuned pipe, magneto, heads and carbs, just to make sure the bolts do not freeze up on me.

If I were to suggest Loctite, it would be in the 6 bolts that hold the frame work on at the air box. IF they vibrate loose, they are going down the throats of the carbs...........so, it's up to the owner on how often he puts his hands on it.............
