Carb question...Pop-off pressure.

Still chasing some issues here before my second new engine arrives. My carbs have been rebuilt and set to factory specs. I was reading in my manual about the carb adjustments. There is some mentioning about pop-off pressure. Now from what I think I read, is this performed to check if certain seals and o-rings are bad in the carbs? Or, once a carb is rebuilt is this a course of action that needs to be performed? Thanks

Thanks JPX. Great info there. We didn't have the guage to adjust the pop-off pressure. Not sure if that was/is my problem but I think I'm going to take the carbs to the dealer and have them set that and go over the settings. FWIW, when my new engine failed both plugs had a nice chocolate color. So, not sure what to make of it yet.

Who rebuilt the carbs? If the carbs are back on the engine, then they will need to be removed and partially dismantled to conduct the pop-off test.

But most likely if the same spring on the float arm was reused, the pop-off didn't change much (some on here may not like this line of thinking).

At that point you should check the low speed and high speed adjustment screws positions that are recommended for your model. Usually zero (closed clockwise) on the high speed screw. And low speed screw should be closed fully clockwise then back out counterclockwise 1 turn. There are two of each of these screws - 1 for each carb.

But there is only one screw that controls the idle adjustment for both carbs.

They were rebuilt by the mechanic that helped me with the engine. The carbs are off the engine right now because I am awaiting the new one to get here. I'm not sure if the same spring was used on the float arm. If it didn't come with the rebuild kit then I assume it is. He didn't see anything out of the ordinary wrong. The high and low speed are set to specs.

shock...while their off, I'd test the pop-off, also call the mechanic and see if he installed new ones...most if not all kits, come with 65,80,95,and 115gram springs...I say test the pop-off, cuz..with new diaphram, the nub in middle is new, verses the old one thats wore down, or possible the float arm is worn more than other. From what I've read and learned...its a vital part to entire system work'n correctly...
