Boat is running rich...can see white screws but unsure if these are idle screws? Carbs are so tight in space its hard to see anything! if you have adjusted carbs please share!

Any help appreciated!

Well.... carbs don't go out of adjustment. If something changed... then there is an issue. BUT... since you are saying it's rich... I'm thinking your enrichening unit is leaking.

Do you have the manual for the boat??

I had carbs rebuilt last year and it was never right since- basically he did a crappy job possibly? Can you expand on the enrichening unit issue and are the white screws i can see from above my mix screws?

OK... sounds like the shop who did the rebuild should be checking it over... but... let me go look over the manual, and I'll get back to you later this afternoon. (Don't remember what those screws were off the top of my head)

Hi,

Sorry I didn't get back to you last night on this... but I got tied up. Also... since I haven't played with the Merc carbs for a while (mine is EFI) I wanted to double check the circuit.

OK... before we start... I need to know... are you running rich at all throttle positions? OR... is it just at idle?

IF IT"S JUST IN THE LOW RPM'S :

Then chances are... it's low-speed screws that are miss-adjusted. There is one on EACH of the carb bores. So... there are 6 of them, and they all need set the same. The stock position is 1-1/2 turns out from lightly closed. It should run there if there are no other issues.

BUT... there is also an idle air bleed jet. SO... if they are plugged up... or the internal ports are plugged... then it will cause it to be rich at idle.

If it's rich everywhere... then it's the enrichment system. You will need to take it apart, and make sure it's all functioning correctly.

My turn to say sorry! Never got an email that an update had been posted so I thought nothing was here- anyways, symptoms are you can smell gas [raw] when going at wake speeds. can't smell it in the engine compartment so I think its going straight out the exhaust. All plugs looks good and have been replaced- no loose or unconnected spark, coil wires seen.

I can see white plastic capped set screws when looking down at the carbs- they are on the sides of all carbs- possibly these are my low speed sets? Funny how there is so much space around the motor except for the carbs!

yes... the plastic caps should be the idle mix screws.

But... as before... the enrichening unit will make it rich at idle. (it's your choke system)
