Carb Adjustment?

Hey guys here's my problem. I have a 1996 XP with the 800 motor. I replaced the grey fuel lines, cleaned out the fuel selector, and cleaned the fuel filters inside of the carbs. When I took the carbs off I tried to mess with any of the adjustments on them. Just took them off, cleaned them, and put them back on. I was finally able to put my ski back on the water and started having problems. When I go to start it, it will fire up for a second or two and then die. It seems like it's not getting fuel. Checked the lines and fuel seems to flow with no problems. I was finally able to start it and keep it running for about 5 min. During this time at WOT it felt like I only had it at half throttle, and almost felt like it was bogging. Once I shut it down, and tried to start it again I would start up for a secong and then die back out. I think I might need to adjust the carb? Anyone have any ideas? Sorry about the long post, I just wanted to give as much info as possible. Thank you in advance.

Rebuild them. The kit cost's $50 per carb. Screw the jets in a half turn
at a time. Pay attenion to how many turns. Mine were Hi jet 1.25 turns. Blow them out with carb cleaner
and compressed air.

During the cleaning of the carbs you must have removed the low and the high speed screws. When you replace them these are teh settings. Adjust them first before you do anything else. Here are the adjustments for the carbs.
The High Speed screw is set to "0". These have a plastic cap on them to keep them from being turned any more than 1/4 turn. The Low Speed screw is set to 1 1/2 turns. The screw has a pin through it. If you need to adjust the idle speed do NOT use the low speed screws to adjust it. Use the IDLE Screw to adjust both carbs at the same time. When adjusting the carbs be sure both carbs are in sync.

I hope this info helps you out.

Awesome, I'm going back out to the lake tomorrow and I'll try those adjustments and let ya know how they work. Thanks for the help guys.

That's a great picture JPX...it needs to be fliped...the gas lines are at the top and the sync linkage is at the bottom...

I just realized what is going on with that picture Karl.

The photo above is the orientation of the carbs on a 717/720 engine. The pump faces the FRONT of the boat and the carbs sit like that on top of the 717/720 engine.

The 787/800 engines have the carbs turned the other way - pump to the BACK of the boat and the carbs (as you pointed out before) are facing kind of sideways instead of straight up.

I had incorrectly assumed the carbs were oriented the same way for the 800 and 720 motors. I'll photoshop up another picture to reflect this variation.
